Thailand's Expats Urged to Register with TRD for Tax, Says Expert
Okay, well I won't bury my head in the sand. Today I will visit my local tax office and register for a TIN. Now, as I'm not that great on a computer I would appreciate a little technical help, please, Kasikorn has sent me three forms to fill out in a PDF format. Is there a way of filling out these forms without printing them off and filling the forms out manually? -

Getting Old: Stoic About It or Endless Whinger?
Where I live (for tax purposes - I'm rather nomadic occasionally) I was able to WORK and draw a pension for a year and a half. Legally. Goddam EU marxist communism. It's $hi7, stay in the US or the UK. You'd hate it here. And don't get me started on how much holiday I got or the health issues that I didn't pay a penny for in the socialist hell of Germany. Late in life and retired after a lifetime of good universal healthcare the docs are giving me a clean bill of health and I'm just wondering what to do with the last third or so, roughly, of my available adult years. I can't rock climb or tackle obstacles the way I once could. My shoulder is threatening me with some violence in a not too distant future. I have to be careful with my back and couldn't punch my way out of a wet paper bag these days. However I still do hefty gym work and cardio, swim, am active, travel and enjoy life, have lots of fun. But the body is definitely dying and the aches and pains I wake up with sometimes were never there as a young man. The wrinkles set to come are already hinting at the maps they'll draw on my face and the loose skin that will develop on my arms is beginning to pucker. There's no escaping that. I find those thoughts comforting rather than trying to deny it though. Dying is, in the end, just another issue to deal with in life. I'm more worried about the how than the fact itself and I am quite prepared to put an end to me myself if things get really bad. I do hope though that I can get the remainder of the things done I want to do before I get that far. I've made it a priority not to die regretting things I haven't done. But who knows? -

Marrying a Thai Wife: Overrated or Underrated?
Someone thinks too much. Fantasy vs Reality ... who comes up with this stuff. Take the word 'Thai' out. It's a woman, hopefully, if that your preference. No different than any other woman of the world. Same everywhere, emphasis on 'potentially' ... as all people aren't ... ... beautiful (sounds a bit shallow) ... caring, good luck with that ... devoted, divorce rates not different ... values family and home life ??? More important, do you want to be married and or .... why ? You're marrying the woman, not the family. Why would you support anyone else ? Is this something you do in home country ? Cultural compatibly and the rest is just made up BS. You're 2 people, you get along or you don't. The rest is just BS excuses people use when things fail. Like all relationships, either works or doesn't, no need for excuses. What makes you happy, what makes her happy, and if not like minded, it will fail. Culture, language, other people have nothing to do with it. The fantasy of marriage is a failed institution, and why so many fail. 2 people finding out everything there is to know about each other and still liking each other .... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE My advice ... if never wanting to be divorced, never get married. That piece of paper is a fantasy, and for many, a curse. -

Tour Boat Capsizes in Cheow Lan Dam in Storm: Search for Missing French Tourist
Boats in Thailand - ferries, long tail, large, small, whatever type that carries passengers/customers are in the same league as motorbike taxis. If you board one, you are putting your life at the mercy of the boat operator and the tour operator. If that is the only mode of transport to a location, I won't be visiting it. In more developed countries, the first thing that would happen to the person in charge of the boat and all crew members - a urine test for alcohol and drugs...and not the BS roadside quickie test but the kind that go to a lab for testing. -

Young Male Elephant Found Dead in Natural Canal in Chachoengsao
For the second time in less than two weeks, the death of a young wild elephant has been reported in Chachoengsao Province. A 4-5-year-old male elephant was found dead, floating bloated in a natural canal overgrown with thick aquatic vegetation near the forest edge behind Nong Krating Village in Sanam Chai Khet District. Mr. Supatwee Kulsaree, President of the Tha Kradan Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), coordinated with Captain Wasan Panthum, Commander of the 1306th Ranger Company, to inspect the site after receiving a report from local villagers. The area where the elephant was found is currently part of an effort to push back a herd of over 80 wild elephants that have been foraging in local farmland. At the scene, the forest elephant monitoring team of Tha Kradan SAO, led by Mr. Supatwee, worked alongside the village head of Moo 20 and integrated efforts with soldiers from the 1360th Ranger Company and the 1st Infantry Division, 111th Infantry Regiment. A drone equipped with a camera was deployed to monitor the large elephant herd and ensure safety. The deceased young elephant was discovered floating in a natural canal densely covered with aquatic plants near the forest edge behind Nong Krating Village in Moo 20, Tha Kradan Subdistrict. The discovery prompted local authorities to bring in heavy machinery, including a backhoe, under the direction of Village Chief Saroj Laisuwan, to manage the situation. Meanwhile, a veterinary team from the Wildlife Rescue Center Region 2 (Krabok Khu), located in Klong Takrao Subdistrict, Tha Takiap District, was dispatched to examine the elephant’s body. Initial investigations suggest the young elephant may have wandered away from its herd, become disoriented, and fallen into the thickly vegetated canal, where it drowned. The strong odor of decomposition led villagers to the site. Veterinary staff also retrieved the tusks from the elephant for further analysis. Given the bloated condition of the carcass and the natural cause of death, the remains were buried near the discovery site. Mr. Supatwee Kulsaree and Captain Wasan Panthum have announced plans to strengthen efforts to drive the herd of over 80 elephants back into the forest, aiming to protect villagers currently harvesting their rice crops.
