WarpSpeed
What's their work like? Quality/price? RAZZ Well I think the jpegs speak to the quality but I'd be curious about pricing as well. I like that VW bus/pickup in the background too, looks a real nice bus.. I might have widened and flattened out the exhaust channel a bit to give the exhaust a bit of room to flex & move without banging the floor and easier to install a heat shield too but that's just me.. Murf
Thanks for the replies... Yes it is costing me an arm and a leg The car should be seeing some gymkhana/drift/trackdays when it's finished. I like the quality of the work at this garage and the fact that you can talk to them about your ideas and they will listen and follow through on them, unlike other places i have seen, where they pretend to listen and then when your back is turned they do what they want to do. It is not cheap, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. They specialise in VWs and if you want a Bug restoring prices start at around 80000 baht. culicine
It should be quick when it's done; what are the internals of the engine like? I see it's a second hand motor. Will it be front heavy?

Yes but his mods will put it in a crazy class with cars far more powerful and newer but he can have a lot of fun anyways but with little hope of winning.. Try this again hope the server doesn't dump again..Don't know what happened to my edit but here goes again sites been acting funny for me lately.. I had considered one of his other Escorts he had for sale but stock even with considerable engine and suspension mods it wouldn't be quick enough for my liking or competitive and with a larger engine or in this case one from another manufacturer it will be ridiculously classed and still under-performing in relation in spite of his good work and money invested and for me that's a deal breaker if I can't be competitive just to drive for the sake of driving but to each his own if just getting some seat time is his goal and that's good enough for some, at least initially until they get bitten by the competitive bug, seen it happen many times. Murf
I have been round Bira circuit many times in my old Escort Good fun. I am not really into competitive stuff, so it doesn't really matter to me about the classification thing. I built it to be a fun car. I do not plan to compete in the races on a regular basis, but i would like to have a blast out with the boys when it takes my fancy. If you are into the same chassis same manufacturer thing, then it is better to go Japanese as they have a lot of good engines to choose from, hench why i chose the Nissan engine I really wanted a Honda S2000 engine, but the budget wouldn't stretch and it is not as practical and available as the SR20. There you have it then, it is a nice marriage engine wise I agree, no criticisms there only comments. Hope you can resist the competitive temptation, you have no idea how many times I've heard that said over the years initially and before you know it they're buying themselves a 2011 or so Porsche 911 Gt3 or summit . WarpSpeed
Oh Ok, shame not knowing where you are there are some pretty decent welders around that have built some excellent cages.. I don't know of them personally but there is one farang owned shop in Pattaya but definitely not on the cheap but I NEVER scrimp on a cage it's what I'll spend whatever is needed to get my specs as most of my cages are safety primarily first & foremost but in that designed safety, is well designed performance they apply all the rest of their existence on the off chance of that one hopefully rare instance they save your life.. These bolt in cages with the bars bent around the dash are not only useless they're down right dangerous, they'd accordion down to nothing in a heart beat if they were impacted from roof side and they also move all over the place when driving, once I drove with one in another competitors car and it kept hitting me in the side of my helmet and I'm not the tallest person so that was quite disconcerting while trying to drive..I was dubious when I first saw it anyway but afterwards swore never again... Let me try to post one of my cage designs if I can though not produced here mind.. Being built: .. Wanted to post my finished jpegs but can't find them @ the moment.. All chormoly, the rules require specific bars and give you a choice of cold rolled or chromoly steel and though the chromoly was far more expensive (not as much my life, which for my family at least is priceless) & being lighter it allowed me to add many more bars for both safety and performance but conversely they both compliment each other when done right.. This was a champion Integra I built from literally a shell, that was stripped and was a theft recovery.. Kind of puts a big hole in T/A's suggestion of my only competing in grocery getter Vw's eh? ... Edited October 24, 2012 by WarpSpeed
WarpSpeed
Here's some finished product jpegs I had to scan in first can't find my digital files @ the mo.. Safety also inspires confidence...Triangulation is essential, if memory serves there is around 18 triangulated areas in this cage, I'd have to count them again and some don't show as there's support bars underneath the aluminum flooring as well you can see them if you look closely to the construction jpegs.. How about an engine bay jpeg.. Edited October 24, 2012 by WarpSpeed
WarpSpeed
Forgot to mention this puppy cost me $3000 back home when the exchange rate here was about 45 to the dollar. And the additional bars in the foot well provided a surrounding drivers safety cocoon on all sides..PS sorry to hijack your thread, thought it might be useful info.. anon210
TC, really nothing to do with your time, than post irrelevant messages on all the topics of the motor forum? The motor is a Nissan, you can see that plainly in one of the picture! I understand that you are bored, but there are so many other forums to go to post on... Let me give you a link for a companion of happiness in the Cruze: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-term-ownership-reviews/86103-chevrolet-cruze-white-annihilator-has-arrived-edit-fitted-race-dynamics-box.html At least Indians are as happy as you of their Cruze...
