Jatuporn puts brave face on renewed Cabinet snub

BANGKOK: -- An obviously disappointed red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan has promised to go on supporting the government despite being passed over for a seat in the new Cabinet.

Jatuporn went on Asia Update satellite TV on Wednesday night to tell his red-shirt supporters that he would not get a Cabinet seat, while fellow red-shirt leader Natthawut Saikua would keep his position as deputy agriculture minister.

Jatuporn appeared disappointed, even as he spent about 15 minutes assuring his supporters that he accepted the decision to exclude him from the Cabinet. It had been speculated that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra would reward Jatuporn with the seat of deputy interior minister.

"The issue is over for me," Jatuporn said. Jatuporn said he had no conflicts with Natthawut, adding that there had never been an agreement between the two to take turns in the Cabinet.

"This issue is not for Natthawut to decide. The one who has made the decision is the government leader," Jatuporn said.

Jatuporn said he did not want red-shirt supporters to hold bad feelings toward the government, so he decided to go on TV to tell them that he would not be getting a position in the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle.

He said he wanted to make sure the decision did not become an issue, adding that the public interest should always take priority.

"No matter what happens, I'll remain myself; nothing has changed. No situation is certain, or lasts forever," he added.

Occasionally sounding bitter, Jatuporn said that although red-shirt supporters wanted him to become deputy interior minister, their wishes could not always be met.

"In politics, one plus one does not always equal two; there are complicating factors in politics," Jatuporn said.

He rejected concerns that if he joined the Cabinet he would be a prime political target, and said he did not believe that this was the main reason he was denied a seat.

On speculation that he was excluded from Cabinet because he is seen as an obstacle to the government reconciling with its opponents, Jatuporn said he was easy to talk to if the discussion was based on principles.

He said he would not leave the red-shirt movement or form a new party.

"My failing to receive a Cabinet seat is a trivial issue. If I wanted to leave, I would have done it a long time ago," Jatuporn said.

He said he considered himself fortunate in comparison to those red-shirt protesters who were killed or injured during the 2010 demonstrations. He said he would dedicate himself to serving the red shirts by holding rallies and hosting TV programmes.

Jatuporn ended his TV statement by expressing an apparent resignation to his fate.

"I have a lot of political wounds because I have fought a long-time war. Our world is like a theatre stage. But I have been too serious. I won't leave to form a new party because my mission with the UDD [united Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship] is not complete," Jatuporn said.

"My personal feelings are nothing compared to [the thought of] losing the UDD. It's fine for me to wear any hat; all is make-believe."

That facial expression that Jutuporn is showing reminds me of the facial expression of our youngest boy when he didn't make it to the toilet in time and a fart became a disaster.whistling.gif

My personal feelings are nothing compared to [the thought of] losing the UDD. It's fine for me to wear any hat; all is make-believe."

All is make believe.

At last he admits it,

All the accusations, suppositions, conjecture, in fact all the words that fall from his mouth are coming from a dream world, all is make believe.

"He said he would dedicate himself to serving the red shirts by holding rallies and hosting TV programmes."

Wont this violate his parole? At least his cases can go ahead now he has lost parlimentary imunity

Watch your tongue, court tells Jatuporn

However, the court advised him to abide by the law, be careful about his public remarks - particularly at political rallies - and avoid any act that would infringe on the rights and liberties of other people, for the sake of peace in the country.......Jatuporn and other red-shirt leaders have been granted bail despite being charged with terrorism and causing unrest in connection with the 2010 riots.........

Cases against red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan, and where the cases are now

- Terrorism case: Jatuporn granted bail. (Currently being probed by the Department of Special Investigation.)

- Libel case: Jatuporn in 2009 gave a press interview accusing then prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva of inappropriate conduct during an audience with the King. The Criminal Court on July 10 found Jatuporn guilty of libel and handed down a six-month jail term suspended for two years due to it being his first offence.

- Libel case: Jatuporn in 2009 made an accusation against Abhisit in relation to an attack on Abhisit's vehicle at the Interior Ministry and Abhisit's involvement in the dispersal of red-shirt protesters in 2009. (Currently in the court-hearing process.)

- Libel case: At a rally, Jatuporn accused Abhisit of seizing His Majesty the King's power and of involvement in chaos at the Din Daeng Triangle, Petchaburi Road and in Pattaya. (Currently in the court-hearing process.)

- Libel case: Jatuporn accused Abhisit of ordering the killings of people and of evading conscription. (Currently in the court-hearing process.)

- Libel case: Jatuporn read a court verdict on his TV programme allegedly causing viewers to misunderstand that Teepsurang Pukditanakul, the wife of Constitution Court judge Jaran, is a bad person. (Currently in the court-hearing process.)

Wait until the message really sinks in. He's just been given the rough end of the pineapple, and is facing a court case with heaps of incriminating evidence that could get him a death sentence unless he pleads guilty and confesses.

Don't be surprised if some time in the future he disappears or suffers a very nasty arranged accident.

Note to a mercenaries - the loyalty factor is very limited, and they don't get to join the superannuation scheme.

"But poor Gollum didn't really want his preciousss , no no, not really truly, neverrr ... " rolleyes.gif

"The one who has made the decision is the government leader," Jatuporn said.

Meaning the fragrant PM-Yingluck, or He who Thinks so that the party can Act out his orders, and who has now shown the extent of his loyalty to this trusted local-leader, rewarding him as he deserves. Oh dear, poor Gollum Jatuporn. laugh.png

He said he considered himself fortunate in comparison to those red-shirt protesters who were killed or injured during the 2010 demonstrations."

Especially fortunate when compared to his fellow red-shirt leader Seh Dang, who was too candid about where his true loyalty lay, and paid the price.

The prospect of a juicy-carrot remains, a nice Cabinet position whenever it suits "the government leader", and the big stick for those who forget. Good Luck in court, Gollum Jatuporn !

He will dismiss all those charges on the basis that they "politically motivated".

It might be possible that he has made a deal that will get him off all those cases in exchange for "not making trouble".

Translation of Jatuporn's verbal diarrhea: I am a victim and have been sacrificed for the prosperity of the Clan.

I have actually forced myself to watch this guy on RED TV once or twice and listen to what he says. This is exactly how he (and others) talk. Its comedy.

Sometimes I wonder... where is the dictator? or the war?

Perhaps this, along with sparing Kittirat and appointing Pradit, is just a feint to throw the opposition off guard and make the media say Yingluck is acting independently. After the no confidence debate is over they might appoint Jatuporn to the cabinet after all, so he can whip up red shirt support for the third reading of the amnesty bill. It is hard to believe Yingluck is really being independent.

'On speculation that he was excluded from Cabinet because he is seen as an obstacle to the government reconciling with its opponents, Jatuporn said he was easy to talk to if the discussion was based on principles.'

I think he meant principals - mercenaries tend to have one principle: money.

"My personal feelings are nothing compared to [the thought of] losing the UDD. It's fine for me to wear any hat; all is make-believe."

Interesting statement from this idiot. I suppose he thinks the deaths of everyone during the red mob burn Bangkok campaign was only make believe.

A very wise move. Too much baggage.

Exactly. Thaksin needed him and the other red rascal leaders during the burn Bangkok campaign to fire up the red sheep and get a few killed. Worked like a charm. Now he has outlived his usefulness. Kind of like an old leisure suit from the '60s era. Time to chuck it and move on to the next useful idiot.

This was a win win situation for Thaksin, the government, Jataporn and the UDD / redshirts.

He will have had personal discussions with the governments leader AKA Thaksin some time before this supposed stage managed announcement was publicly made.

The PT will now be able to function without having to worry about his unpredictable nature and any embarrasing awkward moments for Yingluck and her coherts.ect. ect.

The UDD still have a leader / commander who can dedicate his time ( in cohesion with the exiled one ) to their cause without having to consider any restrictive obligations he may have had as government minister.

Thaksin of course as the true goverment leader will have once again got him to accept his fate at present regarding a cabinet seat with promises of bigger incentives in the future...for now ????

Thaksin keeps his seemingly unchallengable authority intact and most importantly his relationship with the redshirts on the business as usual arrrangements....for now ?????

Thus keeping his all important Thai face and more importantly his authority aka totalitarianism intact,

While officially not wishing to be seen to be in partnership with the reds, and all it encompasses, unofficially the leader can still use them as and when it suits him...them.

Regarding Jataporn actually being convicted of his charges, until he actually is, their is no threat on any untoward reactions or the predictable repercussions that will surely follow...for now ????

Jataporn will have been handsomely rewarded for his continued loyalty, ongoing support and all it entails....for now ????

While on the surface it may appear to have been a " trivial matter " you can rest assured it wasn,t and their will have been relief all round it has been amicably sorted out...for now ????

The trade offs will IMHO become apparent in some way or another somwwhere down the line.

That,s if the party continue in government for the foreseeable future of course.

Are you suggesting it was a "happy ending " for the faithful servant of the man afar?

I almost feel sorry for the humiliation he must feel, but I'm sure every time he checks his bank balance and starts his new SUV, all is forgotten.
