Deputy Prime Minister Suwat Liptapanlop (สุวัจน์ ลิปตพัลลภ) has inspected Chiang Mai Night Safari prior to its official opening this evening (06/02/2006). He will also attend the mobile Cabinet meeting, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow (07/02/2006).

Mr. Suwat said that the conference room has been decorated in a natural forest theme. He said the venue is well prepared for the conference, and expected that no problems should occur.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the Cabinet meeting at the night safari will help promote tourism in Chiang Mai Province, and this will also help publicize the venue to other foreign countries.

According to Mr. Suwat, over 1.4 million tourists have already visited the Night Safari, and half of them are foreign tourists.

He touched upon the matter where his brother Thewan Liptapanlop (เทวัญ ลิปตพัลลภ) has been claimed to join the demonstration on the 4th of February. Mr. Thewan has informed Mr. Suwat that he just stopped by to have a look at the demonstration only, and he had no intention to join the rally.

The Chiang Mai Mail reports the reservation of 270+ rooms, in 4 local up-market hotels, for the visitors. It's nice to see them supporting the local tourist-trade, if at the expense of the tax-paying public, to help aleviate poverty in Chiang-Mai. :o

A large amount of budget for the eight Northern provinces will be approved in the mobile Cabinet meeting, which will be held in Chiang Mai today.

A huge budget of several development projects for Chiang Mai and seven other northern provinces will be approved by the mobile cabinet meeting. The budget scheme includes 13 billion baht for 36 flood-prevention projects, which will be implemented this year to cope with recurring flooding problems in the wet season. These projects are expected to be completed by 2009.

Other projects will focus on economic development to be implemented in Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, Lampang, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, and Nan provinces. These schemes will not only promote economic growth in the region, but also seek to preserve the indigenous Lanna culture.

As the landmark of northern Thailand, Chiang Mai alone is expected to win a number of projects concerning educational and cultural preservation.
