What Is This Animal?

Featured Replies

Thai name:

Nok Gaew Kun Thoong (small letters below show tones). Loves peoples' hair apparently.

(mid) (fall) (rise) (low)

Apparently, if you don't wash your hair or clean out your nose, it'll pick at you and make sure you are properly clean.

A forpus? Isn't that just half an octopus?

Heh. Forpus == Parrotlet, tiniest parrot in the world. smile.png

I see it in Thai as 'Nok Kaew Forpus' (eg: www.siamforpus.com )

Any clues where I might get supplies and a cage? Will try Kham Thiang first I suppose. Cage may be a challenge as people here seem to keep birds in tiny hanging cages, not very suitable for a walkers/climbers.

Thanks! Yes..

I didn't think it was possible but I'm on Forpus forums more than on Thaivisa this week.

BTW there is a lady in one of the Kham Thiang shops who hand-raises all kinds of parrots. Very interesting as they become super tame. I did notice that quite a few species are LOUD... This little foundling is a lot easier on the ears.

They sure can be loud, I have one of them. sad.png Wanna trade?

No, it's definitely some kind of parakeet or young dwarf parrot. A 'parrotlet' perhaps. Canaries just hop about and aren't very social / into people. This one is more affectionate than my wife actually. wink.png Couldn't get him/her to sit down anywhere except on my shoulder or in my hair. :/

I believe they like to nest in toupees ? rolleyes.gif

looks like a parakeet

I just spoke to my other half and she said it was an "Arroy" smile.png

Unless budgies have morphed into something else it looks like one to me. It has the colors of the wild budgie before breeders started to play around with them.

definitely lovebird.

i'd be very happy to take it of your hands/shoulder.

I might have to take you up on that actually. (Even though it's not a lovebird but a PARROTLET /Forpus !). The Mrs. hates things that fly, apparently. Birds, bats, whatever. ;) At best she seemed to consider it some kind of decorative piece, like you keep fish in an aquarium.

I've explained that parrot-like birds are a lot closer to dogs, in that they're social, need attention, like to play with stuff, break stuff, need exercise, and are generally happy only when they're around people; you don't just put it in a cage and hang it somewhere on the porch.

Say g'day to it and if it asks for a beer you will know it is a nudgie.
