SONGKHLA: -- Six teenagers were arrested on Thursday night after triggering a home-made bomb in return for a small amount of money and drugs.

According to police, the suspects said they were each promised Bt100 and one methamphetamine pill to trigger the device to spread fear in the violence-plagued region.

Songkhla Governor Krissada Boonraj said yesterday that the suspects were arrested in Chana district's tambon Ta Morsai.

They implicated Subet Hussen, 39, who is now on the run.

Krissada said the young suspects were found in possession of another home-made bomb, two firecrackers, six methamphetamine tablets and five bullets.

"They appeared to be high on the drug," he said.

Krissada praised kamnan, village heads and local officials for assisting soldiers and police in trying to curtail the unrest in the deep South.

Meanwhile, Pattani Governor Pramuk Lamun announced the arrest of four suspects involved in staging a bomb attack that killed six people and injured 53 others on September 21.

The attack occurred in front of a gold shop in Pattani's Sai Buri district.

Pattani police chief Maj-General Ekkapop Prasittiwattanachai said the targeted search in Sai Buri led to the arrests of Hapizi Jehna, 22, Yawari Hama, 22, Rowi Salae, 23, and Aleusu Nawae, 40. They were charged with terrorism and numerous other offences, he said.

"They are members of RKK," Ekkapop said, referring to the separatist group Runda Kumpulan Kecil.

Rehab them all, they did not know what they were doing, it was the drugs that made us do it and we really dont care if we kill and maime people, just give us the drugs. And we were only carrying the bullets to kill spiders with.

The other 2 well rehab them as well as they were only terrorists and did a heap of other offences.

As for Krissada praising kamnan, village heads and local officials for assisting soldiers and police. He has probably signed their death sentence for naming them and the village where these terrorists were caught.

So for 100 Bt and a 'pill' they would have happily committed an act of terrorism, why not use their stupidity and greed? Give them 500 Bt each on the proviso that they each supply one piece of valid intelligence!

If they fail then charge them for the original offense! Cheap intel!

So heart-warming to see the ethics and morality of those behind this campaign of terror (all done in the name of that "religion of peace"!). I suppose bribing teenagers with drugs is slightly more ethical than strapping a suicide belt to a mentally impaired 14 year old girl as their fellow "peace-lovers" did in Iraq.

Now wait for all of us to be branded "bigots".wink.png

Wow! The tide is turning. They have arrested 6 teenagers, and 4 suspects, and have a lead on a guy on the run.

Only a few thousand to go and the place will be sorted.

Really wish they'd use the name of the actual town in the headlines.

Songkhla the town is a pretty peaceful place that has great beaches, friendly people (if you stay away from the fishing wharves at night), and not a lot of violence at all. They have had a hotel bombing years ago, but it was more of a business dispute than a terrorist act.

I worry more about getting run over by a taxi or scooter taxi on the sidewalk in BKK than getting hurt in Songkhla- with the possible exception of crossing the street in front of all the kids riding scooters at night in Songkhla. Reminds me of cruising when I was a teenager, but with scooters and no traffic cops to spoil the "fun" (and protect the innocent).

I guess since these guys are not the smartest boys in the hood, it would be reasonable to 'entice' them into giving up their connections. After all, 100Baht and a pill? I mean they have been ripped off... treated as buffaloes, lost face, will do time... scammed...

Agreed, not a bigoted post, but misinformed. The violence is not been carried out in the name of Islam; it's politics and crime
