An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar 8.12 am Sunday, the United States Geological Survey reported on its website.

The USGS reported that the quake's epicenter was 56 kilometres northeast of Shwebo, Myanmar. It had a depth of some 10 kiilometres.

Felt it quite strongly in Bangkok, twice quite long... I was watching the news on TV and thought something was wrong with me... Then saw the lamps swinging from the ceiling...

I felt it on the 19th floor of my condo near Asoke in Bangkok...the building was swaying for about 30 seconds.

USGS has it downgraded to a 6.6, but it was quite shallow, at only 6 miles.

@krisb Not likely to generate any tsunami warning, as it was 270 miles inland.
