Thai police arrest Austrian man for attempted blackmail

PATTAYA: -- Police arrested an Austrian magazine owner in a Thai resort town on charges of attempting to blackmail a German multinational consumer products firm, police said Wednesday.

The technology crime suppression police unit Tuesday arrested Peter Alois Anton Neunteufel, 61, at his apartment in Pattaya, 100 kilometres south east of Bangkok.

Neunteufel, the owner of the German-language ThaiFokus monthly magazine, had lived in the beach town for more than seven years.

Interpol had traced a blackmail threat to Neunteufel’s computer, and informed Thai technology crime police off, the department’s chief Police Major General Pisit Paoin said.

The Salzburg native had allegedly sent emails to a well-known German consumer goods manufacturer threatening to leak stories saying the company was selling contaminated food unless it paid him 15million euros, Paoin said.

The emails also threatened to plant poisoned food items bearing the company’s brand name on shelves in supermarkets.

Neunteufel will be extradited to face charges in Germany because the unidentified company is based there, Paoin said.

"He was always looking for a buyer for his magazine in Pattaya," said Hans Fritschi, a Pattaya-based Swiss national who started The Farang magazine there. "I don’t think ThaiFocus has been publishedfor several months now."

Probably don't think they can be traced. But the can. And quite easily.

At least free flight to germany for the deported man and free retirement stay in a nice German Jail, not bad at all ahah

No wonder with that name. Neunteufel = Nine-devil.

Delusions of grandeur.

His name Neunteufel means Nine Demons, it seems that he got possessed by his own name.

O Dear and it is cold in Germany at this time of year at least he will have his bratwurst and bread on Christmas day courtasey of the German Government Prisons !!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow!

I know Thai Fokus ... things must not have been going too good...

15 Million EUR?

There are always two problems in these untertakings:

- how to communicate covertly (this can be solved quite easily by an internet specialist)

- remittance of funds (this is very difficult to do anonymously!)

"Neunteufel" in German means "nine devils", LOL.

I guess his son Peter will continue Thai Fokus...

Teufel means devil. The German word for demon is Dämon.

A German prison isn't really scary. Proper food, a sport center, decent food and the possibility that somebody will rape him while he's picking up his soap when showering. The Austrian might love that.

Beside that Neunteutel means nine devils, not demons. Only 600 million baht, what a cheap fcku.w00t.gif

Didn't this idiot realize no company (especially a big MNC) would rest after such an alarming threat!!?? They would never pay or quit looking for this guy. And to use his own computer....throw the whole bookshelf at him.

Fool writing checks his intellect can never possibly collect on.

did anyone check if maybe one of his stories could actually be true ? i am not talking about poisening items in supermarkets, but about claims...

does anyone here knows that coca cola contains Phosphoric acid which is used to clean toilets ???

They use it for the drink first, and then, I suppose, it could be called 'cleaning the toilet'...makes pretty quick work of a copper coin, too...not to mention tooth enamel...

He he he - at slightly different concentrations.

My stomach contains Hydrochloric Acid - never done me any harm. And neither has the odd can of Coke.

Yeah just in time for Christmas too...how lucky is that? I would love to spend Christmas in Germany..

I work in the food industry .... and trust me - companies will never pay people trying to extort money with threats, but they will do everything they can to catch the losers trying this scam.

Much simpler to stick to Jet Ski scams!

Phosphoric acid also naturally occurs in the body FYI

Well..he certainly fixed the air ticket home problem..then he pleads mental illness, does about nine months and comes out to a monster EU disability allowance - and yes - back in Thailand within two years, with his new government approved ATM card...

My Uncle was in a German prison during 1942 and he said they were terrible.

When I saw the article headline I was expecting that it was once again about another Pattaya news website owner. This one is certainly "one up" on the Thonglor Clinic alledged attempted extortion plot. Is there a contest?

I bet Andrew Drummond will be on top of this one too. This makes at least 3 Pattaya news website owners with dubious past or present dealing with the law.

Around 16 yrs ago the i had the choice of paying a 900DM fine or having a free stay in a german prison for 3 days...i convinced them i did,nt have the money and told anyway i did,nt break the law but as i would be leaving on a long work contract the next week and did,nt want to make trouble....could i start my 3 days tomorrow please?

they sent a letter the next day telling me to forget the whole affair.

Many posters have mentioned that his name translates as 'nine devils'. Is it a common name? Sounds a bit strange to be naming a new born child as nine devils?

Silly silly boy, I guess he is going to be making a whole lot of new friends in Germany now, doesn't he know that the internet is monitored all over the world now, I wonder which triggers he typed in is demands, and how long ago he was red flagged by the FBI, and how long they have been keeping tabs on him?
