New Pp, Must Carry Old With Me, Obtaining Double Tourist Question

Featured Replies

I just got a new PP, but must carry my old when exiting next week to Laos. The exit stamp will go into my new PP, and I will be applying for a double tourist, question is will they require to see my old PP, or just the new one? Wondering if there will be any issues getting a double tourist over this?

Thanks.

Before you try and leave Thailand, you have to first get your current visa transferred to your new passport. I tried to get stamped out at Nong Khai (entering Laos) and they send me back. They told me I have go to Immigration in Thailand (Nong Khai) to get the existing visa transferred to my new passport first.

So, I hopped a tuk-tuk, went to immigration and about an hour later I was back with everything transferred to the new passport (consisted of a big "tranfer" stamp that took up a page). After that, no-one wanted to see my old passport. So, just go to immigration where ever you are and get it switched over...then you can leave the old passport at home.

ok thanks!

You only need to have the stamps transferred if you are on an extension of stay. You can exit showing both passports.

Even with a visa exempt entry the old entry and permit to stay stamps have to be transferred to the new passport. Normally this can be done when leaving by immigration at the departure point.

But there have been other reports that at the bridge in Nong Kai they send you to the regular immigration office now.

I went to immigration today in Bkk, I have a non-b multiple in my old PP plus a stamp until the 26th this month, they said they would not transfer that stamp into my new PP, first because it was not necessary, and because the do not have the 'order' to do so. They said if I want the 'admitted until' stamp in my new PP I could get a 7 day extension for 1900.b. They wrote me a note to show at the Laos border, if required, stating that they, nor the Laos immigration, have the authority to demand that I have that stamp from my old PP re-stamped into the new PP. they will only re-stamp if the old PP is damaged or lost, something like that.

Ok. What my concern is, if with just the exit stamp in my new PP, will I have to show the Thai embassy in Vientiane the last visa I had in my old PP? There are a few double tourist from a few years ago, and and I would be concerned about wasting my time going there if I was denied because of that. Thanks.

They make stamps at immigration only for lost passports or extension of stay that have been obtained from immigration. For visas you take care of notations at border when leaving and if you have a valid visa in old passport you just show both passports on return to use it.

Just to note from my previous post, I would be going to Vientiane to get a double tourist, so I would give them my new PP which would only have the exit stamp from Thai and the Laos visa on arrival. Will they ask to see my previous PP?

Also what are the current stipulations for obtaining a double tourist? 2k, visa application, 2 photo, copy of Laos visa on arrival, copy of first page of PP?

My other option is just to go to Melbourne for a non-B multiple, but currently looking for a full time position with WP, so that might be a waste.

Thanks
