[Myanmar] Thein Sein To Visit Australia Next Month

Featured Replies

Burma’s President Thein Sein will go on an official two-day visit to Australia on Dec. 10 and will visit the capital Canberra and Sydney, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. It said the president will be given “the red carpet treatment†after the Australian government invited him in June. Australia lifted its sanction against Burma earlier this year. Australian human rights activist Zetty Brake told the newspaper however, that the visit was “premature†as concerns over the treatment of minority groups in Burma remain, while adding that talk of resuming military ties between Australia and Burma was worrisome.
