Eight people were brought before a Rangoon court on Monday after they participated in the recent protests against a Chinese-backed copper mine in northwestern Burma, BBC News reports. Protest leader Moe Thwe and seven others were charged with incitement and demonstrating illegally. They have denied the charges but were refused bail. Police are searching for two other activists. Kyi Zin Tha of pro-democracy group Generation Wave said those charged had not been inciting crimes against the state, but had only helped express public opinion about the violent raid on protest camps near Monywa that injured dozens of people.
