I missed the 400k baht x 3 months seasoning for a 2nd extension application in Udon. So, being unable to file for another 1-year Non-O extension in Udon (and 'lose' 3 passport pages including the multi re-entry permit), I have opted to get a new Non-O (other/marriage) 1-year multiple entry visa in KL early next year. My current Non-O extension expires on 1 February. The pinned embassy/visa information section of this forum does not contain anything newer than 2008 for this visa in KL so I am assuming that it is pretty much as posted on the MFA website for the KL Embassy as well as my last experience filing and getting this visa in 2010.

Here it is;

2. Dependent Visa (Dependent of spouse or parent possessing Thai nationality)

1. Visa application form duly filled out.

2. Applicant passport valid not less than 6 months. The validity of 18 months is

required for one-year visa application.

3. Copy of passport.

4. (4x6cm.) Photograph(s) of the applicant, taken within the past 6 months.

5. Original and copy of official marriage certificate (For spouse).

6. Original and copy of official birth certificate (For children).

7. Copy of Thai identity card (of spouse or parent).

8. Copy of Thai House registration (of spouse or parent).

9. Bank Statement with a minimum deposit of 100,000 Bath

I did read that they now also need a letter from the spouse requesting the visa be issued to her spouse. Also, has there been any requests to show more than the 100,000 baht in the bank? Last time I showed them my updated Thai bank passbook (and a copy thereof) and they were happy with that.

Is the fee for the multiple still 550 ringgit? I reckon it is still the same procedure; file in the morning on first day and collect early afternoon on second day.

I was just reading the fresh reports about how much easier it is to get the same type of visa in Savannakhet.

Original:

Passport

2 photos

Actual marriage certificate and Kor Ror 2 form.

Copies of:

Marriage certificate and Kor Ror 2 form

Applicant and wife’s passport name pages

Applicants wife’s Thai ID card, front and back

Applicants wife’s tabien baan book.

And NO request (at the moment) for proof of funds in any bank account.

All for 5000 baht, apply on morning of first day and collect in afternoon of second day.

So I have a backup plan. If I am out of country on business, I will do it in KL on the way back to Thailand. If I am in-country, it will be a 'local' job in Laos.

The requirement for funds is 2 months not 3 so maybe you can qualify? If not the best place to obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa is Savannakhet (which is a lot closer). They do not have any financial requirement currently and will only require the normal marriage certificate and wife ID card/home register copies signed by her.

KL would require show of at least 100k in a bank account under current policy. There is a recent reporting pinned item at top of forum in the pinned topics folder.

You could also get a 60 day extension to visit your wife if you cannot make the 2 month requirement now and then extend the 60 day extension.

Correct

NB The money does not have to be in baht nor in Thailand .

I have successfully done twice witha print out showing my Australian bank staement.

It did have well in excess of the minimum

Good luck

If you go KL they ahnd out form at the 0830 gate opening, allow 2 hours

Once in consul take a ticket(both parts) one lday was quite snooty that their machine had only issued half a queueu ticket, but took my docs I can honestly say the only thing closely examined was the loot 550 rinngit only

Readt 230pm next day just too late to get a flight here so allow a few nights in KL

It must be my misunderstanding as I thought I read in a response to another post that the first extension funds in Thailand must be seasoned 2 months and subsequent extensions require 3 months seasoning.

Thanks for pointing out that option. I will consider it. Another matter I need to consider if I apply for a 60-day extension as you suggest and then apply for a subsequent 1-year extension is all the pages this will consume in my current 48-page UK passport. It still has well over 5 years of validity but due to the nature of my work, it fills up rapidly with Thai exit/entry stamps and other countries visas. Then I would have the onerous task of a passport renewal AND the subsequent transfer of stamps to a new passport. Not insurmountable by any means but just something else I would need to juggle in the coming year compounded by my increasing dottage!

On another visa type, has anyone experience of obtaining the 3-year Non-B that the MFA says is available with commensurate paperwork through the Royal Thai Embassy in London? I have in the past obtained 1-year Non-B's through Hull and Houston Consulates with the appropriate Thai entity sponsoring letters and diverting my post-work travel via the UK and US to do so is relatively easy. However, it would good to know of any success rates and processing times in London before I start that paper trail. I already have a Thai sponsoring company that I have worked with before that are willing to supply the whole gamut of paperwork and I have done the UK Police records check a couple of times before for Brazil work visas. Although I qualify for a retirement O as well as the other/marriage O, I would like to keep my options open for the more frequent and quite lucrative short-term consultancy work that arises in Thailand.

The 60 day extension will only be about half a page or less. With under consideration stamp the 1 year extension is a full page. Plus your re-entry permit will be another half page.

Not many reports about 3 year B visas being issued. It is my understanding that it would require you to apply in your home country or residency in country where you apply. Requirements are here: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15386-Three-year-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22-(for-B.html

My understanding is that the 3 year non-B is for busines travelers only, you cannot get a work permit on it. For that you need to have a normal non-B visa.

Or the extension based upon marriage.

NanLaew wrote about the option to go to Savannakhet for a multiple Non-Im "O" visa as a person maried to a Thai.

How reliable is that information? I mean, can I safely go there and get that visa or do I have to fear to get it refused and having to settle for a lesser visa?

Actually he posted about going to KL and I posted Savannakhet as an alternative in post 2. If you have the documents mentioned the chance is good (better than any other Consulate in the region that we are aware of).

It is a can o' worms isn't it Mario? I asked about the 3-year Non-B since applying in the UK isn't an issue and it would fit my current consultant work where I get 1 or 2 short term jobs a year in Thailand. But if they restrict it just to 'business travelers' and not 'possible workers', I wonder why the application is more onerous?

UbonJoe, You are suggesting that a WP can be issued on a Non-O extension based on marriage? Last year I had to scramble to get a Non-B visa as they would not issue a WP against my regular 1-year Non-O (other/marriage) in Bangkok but that wasn't a 'universal' rule as some local labour departments elsewhere would issue the WP. Is the Non-O marriage extension 'universally' usable to support a WP application or is it another 'some will and some won't' scenario like the visa?

It is written in the rules that all that is required is a non immigrant visa and does not say it has to be a B. There are even regulations that give a person married to a Thai that lowers the number of employees needed and registered capital by half. So in reality any labor office should issue a work permit on a O visa based upon marriage or an extension of stay based upon marriage.

Did you give employer a copy of your marriage certificate to use when they made the application for your work permit?

Also are you sure the it was really the labor office that said you could not get the work permit and not your employers agent or lawyer?

TG 2110 direct on SAT,MON, WED and THU.

Probably some Air Asia too.
