Anyone Selling Excess Solar Or Wind Power To The Grid In Thailand?

I understand that with the right hardware it's possible to send excess power into the grid in some parts of Thailand but is anyone out there actually getting paid by a power company for doing this? This is an important issue because ROI (return on investment) for purchasing the equipment can take many years for solar (I don't know how long for wind power). If you can sell your excess power then obviously you pay back the costs sooner and renewable energy becomes a lot more appealing.

I'm fitting a 'grid tie' system like I have in London, but instead of a wind turbine I'm obviously using solar panels. It just puts electricity into the ring main and will help reduce the cost of electricity I'm using during the day (a/c)

If I understand you correctly, you are a net electricity user (using more than you produce) so you are not getting cheques from any power companies.

As far as I understand it, aside from domestic (home) use, any entity wishing to set up under an Independent Power Producer (IPP) agreement, which is primarily for non-domestic projects must obtain / sign a Purchasing Power Agreement (PPA) with EGAT... so yes, pretty much any entity that has set up a decent sized wind or solar operation in Thailand is selling some (or all) of their output back to the grid.

So in other words its not currently possible to do it with a home setup because presumably EGAT is not going to bother setting up a PPA with an operation that is small?

No cheques but if u have a traditional spinning meter rather than digital then when u are away and not using much power the meter will spin backwards... the other plus is its fairly cheap to set up, a couple of solar panels and brackets(and/or wind turbine), cable and the grid tie inverter box which just plugs into a normal house socket.

My understanding is that is not yet possible in Thailand, you need to think up a way for politicians to make money out of it, then it will be top of the agenda.

PPA's are practically impossible to come by unless you have connections at the highest levels. This is largely because of poor policy decisions that were made when this "program" was set up. The unintended result is that there are an extremely limited number of PPA's that can be made available at any given time. Of course being Thailand, rather than EGAT or the MoE reaping the benefit of limited supply by pushing up the acquisition costs, tea money goes into the pockets of the poo yai.

please can you give me some info on the company you are using to get your solar panels and inverter and cost?

thanks

In theory this is possible but meeting all of the regulatory requirements make it impractical for a residential-scale project. Look for the new tariff structure to be announced by the energy ministry early next year to address this. There are plans to promote roof-top solar installations though these would normally be commercial buildings not residences.

Popular source of income in the UK. fr OAP's owning their own home.

Subsidized alternative power solar panels and an income from the national grid.

Another 10 years and LOS will follow suit.

Then again powers cheap in LOS so not worth the trouble.

It is (will be) theoretically possible to sell power to PEA, from this article http://www.asianewsn...?id=36681&sec=2

All houses will be equipped with solar panels. According to a research by Cellennium Co, at the location the roof panels should produce 40 kilowatt per hour of power per day, half the average demand of 80KwH for a 200-square-metre house.

At the electricity cost of 4.30 baht per unit, a house consuming 80 units would be charged 344 baht per day. However, with the solar panel, the bill would be cut by half to only 172 baht. Through a smart grid, consuming below 80 units, the house can also sell the excess power to Provincial Electricity Authority at 4.30 baht per KwH.
