You Know It's Winter In Chiang Mai When............

Featured Replies

My 5th winter here and some of the things that remind me that winter is here are

1) I walk into 7-11 and it feels warm.

2) I close the air vents on my motorcycle helmet.

Feel free to add to the list !

It's 22c indoors and the Wife puts a Jumper on !

When your tempted to start a fire in the fireplace, only to remember how long you had to sit outside the last time until it got cool enough to go back into the house...:)

I would normally wake up around 6.30am to whisper awake my children to spend ever precious time with them before they go off to school, because they grow up so fast you know, soon they will be adults and gone, prepare a full breakfast (its the most important meal of the day) .....and wave them off at the door.......What will I do when they leave me forever...what will I do?.

Now I know......For the last few days I have yelled at them to get up through two walls and a warm doona, laugh at them from the warm doona as they prepare for school shivering and complaining, and once I hear the front door close, role gently to the left and drift back to my warm cocooned sleep.

When I feel really comfortable and all the Thai people that I meet are complaining about how "cold' it is.

You know it's winter when the Thais come to pick up their big blankets that they've left at the local laundry shop for the past 7 months. They never store them at home.

I wear a tee sheet inside the house, and use my thick woollen socks..

The locals are dressing like eskimos and wearing gloves!

I throw a hoodie on for the morning commute.

Gotta coming out in the Am when it's 50-60F and thinking, "niiiice" but at 100+kph it's "Not nice, not nice!"

added emoticon clarification

you choose to drink hot beverages in the evening instead of cold....

too bad winter only lasts 2 weeks.

You actually have to use the hot water heater when taking a shower.

When you turn your hot water heater on high and it's still uncomfortably cool in the shower. I know, I'm such a weather-wimp. (As I hear my Thai neighbours yell and whoop in their hong-nams when they pour that bucket of cold water over their heads.)

Everyone lights up....

I know it's winter again, when the 'Boss' puts her cold feet on me in-bed, to warm them up ! ohmy.pnglaugh.png

when you see the locals dressed up as Eskimos.

When you don't really want to leave the hot shower in the morning, and start drying the front of your body while keeping the warm water on your back.
