[Myanmar] Singapore Turns Away Ship Carrying Rohingyas

Featured Replies

Singapore denied entry to a ship carrying 40 Burmese asylum seekers on Sunday, mostly likely Rohingya who fled the Arakan State violence, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. “Those aboard do not appear to be persons eligible to enter Singapore,†a Singapore spokesperson said, as the refugees lacked official documents. On Dec. 5, the Rohingya had been rescued by the Vietnamese-registered Nosco Victory, after their boat sank in the Bay of Bengal. They had spent at least 30 hours in the water. The UN has called on countries in the region to help ensure the safety of the boat refugees.
