HI, I am currently staying in Thailand on a 2 month single entry tourist visa doing visa runs to re enter for another 2 months,

I have recenlty been told I am able to stay for 6 months to one year without doing the visa run, is this possible? Does anyone know what kind of documentation I would need to provide to the embassy to apply for a visa of this length?

Thanks in advance!

6 months would be a double entry tourist visa, if you know any country that issue it,

but you would still have to go to the border after 3 months.

If you are below 50 years, the other option is 1 year ED visa

if you are above 50 you are lucky to get a cheap retirement visa,

especially as a US citizen where you can swear by scouts honor that you qualify,

no proof needed

You only get one entry of 60 days that you can extend for 30 days at immigration on a single entry tourist visa so not sure how you intend to obtain another 60 days. Are you over age 50 or married to a Thai or have a Thai child. You have not stated any criteria that would provide for more than the normal tourist visa entry.

You would need a non-immirgant visa fo soemthing like that, which are only issued for certain reasons. Like being over 50, working in Thailand, bing married to a Thai national or studying.

For longer term stay, many people use the option of studying in Thailand at a language centre.

You could apply for a double entry tourist visa, giving you two entrie of 60 day and each entry can be extended by another 30 days. You would get almost 6 months out of it, with 1 border run after 90 days. Cost would be 1,000 per entry and 1,900 per extension, so 5,800 baht.
