Educational Childrens Toys

Hi, can anyone please recommend where to look for these type of toys locally. I'm particularly interested in toys that give a basic ( very basic ) insight into chemistry, physics and biology, however anything "educational" would be great.. Also interested in anything to do with art.

Where are the best toy shops in Chiang Mai. The department stores and IS baby I am familiar and disappointed with, are there any other specialist shops in town? I saw in another thread a shop in Nong Hoi mentioned, any good? Also shops on Chareon Prathet road - which I can't find! Are either of these places worth visiting and are there other places that you can recommend.. Any help much appreciated..

Kind regards Chiangmai2

Interesting and amusing you would think there would be children educational toys available in Chiang Mai? And in english? I would be stunned if there are even Thai educational toys available given how poor the Thai educational system is rated, polled, surveyed, etc. I have never seen a suvey where Thailand's educational system isn't near the bottom or at the bottom compared to other countries....

I bought eduactional toys when I was recently in America assuming there is no market existing in CM or Bkk so I am curious to see if any recommendations come forward...

Giving this a little thought, I would think Singapore, Japan, S. Korea or HK might be the best bets (assuming English language toys) regionally.

I just don't think there is a big enough CM market to justify even with a decent international school market as Thai parents would have be the majority of purchasers. And I don't see Thai parents that motivated or involved in academic learning for their kids above and beyond what the school system provides which if one believes all these suveys and ratings is dismal...

Not sure if i am allowed to put the link but toys r us in thailand deliver to most places in thailand you will find what you are looking for there.

I have a inno tab for my girl and can download loads of educational apps online .

Indeed your only option other than eBay.

Thanks for confirming, I thought this would be the case, just hoped I was missing a hidden gem.. I will contact Toys R Us again - when I asked them if they could deliver to Chiang mai before they said NO! It was ages ago though..

I pad is really good. Art, drawing, language , shapes, you name it there's an app for it pretty much. Really easy and intuitive to use; my boys started out at 2 and four no problems. Just need a bit of supervision make sure the don't get dropped or bounced on or find something unsuitable on Utube.

Other than that many of the book shops have art materials and / or interact active kids learning books with sounds and pop outs and such. IS baby your not impressed with but it has the western kind of fisher price baby and toddler toys. Kids kind of todder toys are all pritty similar really. the next level toys are much more fun. There are ellectric kids cars and bikes at some Moto shops. If your interested in science based things why not involve in a bit of practical hands on learning? Like mixing up some home made cleaning products for the maid using white vinegar, lemon and water (and get the kids to help clean as well; you know, life skills not just spoiled rich kids) or tinker with some basic ellectric battery circuits. Many model shops as well, could get them building a model AV car or something. Depends on age, but plenty of learning opertunities. How about an instrument? Many extra curricular music and study colleges for all age groups. Sports?
