The Democratic Karen Buddhist Army and another armed ethnic militia group, the Karen Peace Council, marched through the streets of Myawaddy, Karen State, on Saturday to condemn the use of force against anti-copper mine protesters late last month. According to KIC, a Karen news agency, 80 members of the two groups attended the protests in full army uniform to demand an apology for a Nov. 29 raid that left dozens of Buddhist monks injured. On Sunday, the government issued a formal apology that was accepted by the monks affected by the crackdown.
