Popular Post David48
Why I Live Where I Live ... Make of the topic what you will. Some people consciously choose their place to hang their hat. Some stumble across it by accident. Some, like me, go where their girl (partner) lives. I'm just so happy that where she lives has it's beautiful moments ... No need for a photo ... just about your reason for choosing the place that you call home (in Thailand) .
Popular Post Gweiloman
Depending on circumstances, some of us are not yet living where we want to live, but only in the general vicinity. Due to work reasons, I could choose between Hong Kong, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. I chose Bangkok. That was 4 years ago. Till today, no regrets whatsoever. Sure, Bangkok's not the best place in the world to live in but on balance, it's been the best place for me over the last 20 years. I've enjoyed everywhere that I've lived in. I believe that it's all up to one's own mindset, to see the positives instead of the negatives, thus making life enjoyable rather than just bearable. David, it's really great that you have such a positive outlook for the rest of your life. There will be ups and downs but as long as you know deep inside that life is what YOU make of it, you will be able to laugh at the nay sayers here on TV.
Dancealot
Try to make plans for the day, try to do 50% in the morning. Something comes up. Cancel 1 plan. Change another. Ok 1 plan left to do! Oh oh! Did the rain start? Beautiful then i can sleep some more and look at it. What did we plan again? hmmmmmmm I love my place where i live in Thailand
rattler
People always seem to assume that as Im in Thailand I love it here, well YES I like the countryside when its not ruined by the Thais total lack of care for it, their endless styrene food containers, Milo cardboard drink containers, plastic bottles etc etc. I like peace and serenity so there again its hard to find here as Thais love the thud thud thud thud thud music, or deafeningly stupid exhausts on the cars or worse still the lorries. So i chose a BIG piece of land that I cant own with No neighbours and good views ...right up until some local decides to build a pig farm or nuclear reactor next to me etc So I chose it as I have NO neighbours which hopefully will put off other Thais as they like to live in a flock.

Popular Post Rob8891
Correct me if i am wrong, but isnt the OP on holiday here and staying at his girlfriends parents place? I don't want to divert the thread, but would like to ask if that is really relevant, tinfoil? David46 started a feel-good thread, and it'd be good to see one that does not get derailed through unnecessary nitpicking. I don't know if you have read his threads / posts in Farming, but there are few members who, (iMO) post so caringly and so knowledgably about where they are in Thailand. I do not yet live in Thailand. I am still in the UK, but plan to move to CM in February. At that point, but not now, I might feel able to post to this thread, but that is my purely subjective decision. To me CM seems to be a satisfactory balance between urban and rural: I lived in London for 12 years, the result of which is that large cities (like BKK) are not for me. Maybe, in the spirit of the OP, you could tell us what you like about BKK,,,, and which beach(es) you like (Choeng Mon for me!)

rene123
I don't know where I live, but I've got a few places where I leave my junk while I'm traveling. Occasionally, I return to exchange the junk I have with me for other junk I might need more.
Popular Post weegee
It's quite obvious by David 48's post....he is just telling all, he is following his heart, and not the mob rule scenerio. He enjoys his life, and if you read his sub post on farming, you might understand what he is saying. I thoroughly enjoyed his farming post....but then again I am one of those who dont need big citys anymore... Oh well....back to mowing the lawn....
Popular Post Rsquared
As with you Dave I live where my wife grew up and her sister is close by. It is out in the sticks, but I like it that way. The house is on 6 rai and there is always something to do, I never really get on top of things, so it is forever ongoing. As you can see from the pic. the view down the backyard is pretty easy on the eyes. Cheers.
Popular Post IMA_FARANG
A personal story. When I was 20 years old I was involved in an accident where I seriously believed I was going to die right there and then. Obviously, I didn't die then, However I was knocked unconscious for a minute or two. At the point I was knocked out I really expected to die.... I remember it vividly. When I woke up, and realized I hadn't died I was so relieved I was alive, my injuries seemed irrelevant. So, today at 66 years old, I am just glad I am still living ... where I'm living is not really all that Important. Twice in my life I came within a whisker's length of being killed. Where I'm living just isn't all that important to me for that reason.

There are so many different attitudes to take when posting here. As for why I live where I live, it's because of my gal ... it's her parents farm ... but they have opened the door to me to share shelter under their roof, food at their table and experiences that they think I might like to join with them. The Farm Father cleaned up an old fan and placed it by the dining table because of the mozzies give me hell. Farm Mother bought me 2 Leo Tall beers the other day ... I didn't ask ... ... and they don't drink. So I came here because of my gf ... but I live where I live here because of their hospitality. David48
If you have a decent internet connection, here is the Video from Sunset at the Farm yesterday. I'm no cameraman, and it's a compact digital camera with a zoom lens which occasionally loses the auto focus ... but you will get the idea. Plus also, you will know the opening photo is not 'tricked up' ... just another beautiful sunset here at the Farm. When I get the time ... there will be a plane spotting thread ... .

Popular Post fredob43
Life really is short. Have the balls to go get it, if it doesn't work, hmmm, try again. Agree, I first tried Pattaya well outside lived there for several year's all it did was make me depressed in the end had to get out, moved on then to BKK after a month the traffic was just to much. Had a word with the G/L 'now wife' said something like we go to some ware we can live Thai or I'm off, gave her a list of thing's some being I must still be able to get the BKK post & still have good shopping and the Soi had to be quiet . I had to go back to England and left her to it, it took her about a month to find & move to where we are now.Having joined her after the trip everything was just great little or no traffic but still have great shopping Big C, Tesco, Makro, ect + BKK Post. The first question I ask my wife on my return was why here her reply it has everything we both want and a long way from her family as she said the nearer to them the more problem's we will get, she was spot on with that bit, Since then 7 year's ago haven't looked back. But the best thing's are we are both very happy, and we smile every day, not a bad word between either of us since we got here, What more can you ask for.

Popular Post Rob8891
Today I retired. I am buying a house in my village (in Scotland) which I will do up and rent out, while I go to Thailand. I plan to go to CM with my gf, as we both like the place, but we may end up in her hometown of Li. I guess that will take me full circle, in a way...I grew up on a farm in Lincolnshire, and may well end up living on another, albeit in Thailand. Maybe we will split our time between Thailand and Scotland, who knows? This might happen, it might not, I really don't know....a great state of flux right now, having stopped teaching after 40 years...but what I do know is that wherever I am, Iwish to relax, not worry about material things if possible, and enjoy whatever days I have. ....but I have no intention of growing old gracefully. May we all find that which we seek. May we have health, peace of mind and good friends around us.
