Best Pickup Truck For Travel With A Scooter, A Smallish Motorcycle And Luggage

Featured Replies

I'd like to have the back seats as comfortable and roomy as possible but will rarely have more than 1 passenger.

Any trucks that would be better for this? Or advice on what I should be looking for?

ps the small motorcycle is a D-Tracker 250.

Not sure many in Thailand would call your D tracker small, being bigger than 99.5% of bikes on the road, however I do have both a truck, Mitsubishi Triton Mega cab CNG and D tracker as well as other bikes. With the tail gate down not a week goes by that I am not trucking a bike here or there for someone. The CNG keeps my cost down to below what it cost to drive my D tracker per km and though it is a small extra cab bench as a back seat, I have never had a complaint from anyone who rides there. The 4 door model without CNG has a larger bed area if you needed doors and real seats

Your D-Tracker won't fit with the tail gate up? I'm hoping to put both my scooter and my d-tracker in the back of the truck. Good to hear the back seat isn't too bad.

did you buy tie downs at the dealer or someplace else? I was also thinking of getting a ring attached to the bed so I can chain the bikes to the truck if I leave them there for an extended period.

They have some nice truck accessories in US for this reason...I don't think Thais copied that yet,but in this case I hope they do tongue.png...any truck will do,but note that the CNG versions have tanks mounted in the bed,so that shortens the length...

Here is "the original" and "the homemade"..

Something else for you to think about is how you wll get 2 bikes into the truck bed.

During the last month I have transported a Yamaha Virago weighing 190 kg and a Honda CB400 at 170 kg at separate times in the bed of my 4 door 4WD Ford Ranger and both times it took 3 strong men to lift them in and out again.

Ideally you would be best off with a 2WD single cab truck but that unfortunately bugger up your lugage carrying and a 3rd passenger.

My truck has a plastic loadbed and ringbolts in each corner and I have some ratchet tie down straps.

I have a heavy duty bike ramp for sale if any one is interested. 2300b or near offer. Pm me for pictures if interested.

That would definitely be cool, especially for a 4 door pickup. I wonder if they have those here? is it legal?

Good point. I will look for a ramp. thanks.

I'd like a 4 door but I'm thinking I will need the room in the bed for the two bikes.

I used to have one of there on my '74 deuce and a quarter....

Much easier then loading in the box.

Was it just as stable? This would really work well for me as then I could get a 4 door and put just my scooter in the bed and put the d-tracker on this thing.

I was going to probably park the truck at BKK Airport when I travel though but I guess I could park the bike separately and remove this when parking if it causes the truck to be too big to fit in a parking spot.

Thanks for giving me another option.

It was perfect. Two big u-bolt holding each wheel and a bolt through the kick-stand. It also had a detachable ramp. I could easily load my XL350 by myself. The rack slipped into two chassis-mounted receivers.
