I've been lollling in the Tonsai Thai Zone oblivious to practical realities but finally trying to book passage out of here by train northwards, so had to look up my passport for my number and had a glance at my visa stamp, wanting to check when the 60 day re-entry my visa authorizes ends; I came back from the Phillippines on Nov 6, and expected the stamp to say January 5. It doesn't. It says DECEMBER 5th. The border agent must have not noticed the visa from the Thai consulate in Toronto and so gave me the usual 30 day entry. My visa was 180 days triple-entry, 60 days each time, this was only the second entry, I won't have time to use the 3rd..........

So what do I do now: Go to an immigration office or the tourist police to get this resolved? Or will they tell me "get out of the country NOW and never come back"? Or do I face a fine? I'm in innocence about this, I assumed the 60 day re-entry was automatic......

Also, I was pondering NOT getting another tourist visa from wherever it's possible to get another 6 month triple-entry and just getting a 30 day...but for a 30 day I need to have an exit ticket or not? I understand KL and Penang are only doing single-entry visas. Is the situation the same in Vientiane and Phnom Penh or HK or Manila?

Reply about status of visa urgently needed; don't want to ask Thai police without knowing what to expect. Thank you.

You have to write the visa number on the entry card, else you don't get it.

Cross the boarder, pay your fine, come back and fill out the entry form correctly using your 60 day tourist visa (which is currently unused).

Just go to immigration to have it sorted out. BKK-immigration at Cheang Wattana road has a special desk where they correct mistakes.

On a visa exempt entry you need a ticket out within 30 days, but inside Asia this is often not enforced by the ailine, especially when you fly one of the budget carriers.

In Laos you should be able to get a double entry tourist visa, with a 3 month validity.

K thank you for the answers; as for ticket outs I can always have a short local flight somewhere booked and cancel it if necessary/possible. I may choose to say in Laos and Vietnam for a while if I opt not to do the course in question (the Int'l House's CELTA program)...not really sure I'm suited for teaching, maybe have to do the Joseph Conrad and go to the jungle and drink and write a few novels....

As for "come back and fill out the entry form correctly using your 60 day tourist visa (which is currently unused)." yes the third entry will go unused, but the overall 180 day visa expires Jan 12 or so anyway. My plan was to get another 60 day visa or another triple-entry 180, but life may see me living elsewhere in the region so crossing that bridge when I come to it.......getting the impression the triple entry 180 day isn't available in the region, though; it was from the consulate in Toronto....

What's the visa situation from Vietnam, say if I went across from Laos rather than down the Mekong?
