Jingthing
That is great news , we need it! If they have an Indonesian chef chances are good the food will be authentic. I will go there for a Gado-Gado . Just to test if they can make it as I remember from Bali. It's on their menu for 139 baht . At least 50 dishes has been named in the menu so can't wait. To add last Wednesday the Indonesian chef had a day off so that might be weekly. They can't do the Indonesian menu when he's not there. I was disappointed that they didn't have any dishes with tempeh. Keep in mind that that website menu does not match their printed menu exactly. But of course gado gado is on it. Don't expect as good as in Bali.

bangkokairportlink
I found a new restaurant selling Vietnamese food as Nem nuan and noodles, but it's on the dark side at Non prue intersection. All dishes are very nice and sold maximum 100 thb. They also have steak and Thai food, but best of all, they grow their hydro vegetables on the spot. People that we can really call nice and not ridiculous like the supposed vietnamese restaurant on central pattaya. https://www.facebook.com/suan.hataikorn I like vietnamese food and healthy salads in a very nice place, and sold at a very low price, so I am sure to go again. Popular Post opporna
I'm excited to say that one of my favorite Italian places is back--they've been closed for a couple years (sold out to someone else). It's called Cala La Pasta and it's on Soi Bongkot (sort of). Here's the Google map Location it's opposite a Family Mart: Cala La Pasta Location The place used to be filled with Italians, and the food is good and very reasonably priced. I had the spaghetti vongole on special tonight for 99 baht. It was excellent and tasted of white wine. Loads of very fresh clams. They used to have daily specials, and the owner said she would continue that. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be eating here quite often. This is the kind of place that needs our support. The location is a bit off the beaten track (around the corner from El Greco), but it's worth making the effort to find it in my opinion. 5

Jingthing
Curry House 2nd Road Just south of Dosa Hut Some changes afoot with this restaurant. There is a FOR SALE sign and now also offering a buffet from 5 pm for 199. Not sure if it's any good but I reckon it's a transition thing. I did eat there one time and wasn't impressed, but if you're looking for a non-tour group Indian buffet, there it is. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d10210281-Reviews-Curry_House-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html Edited June 26, 2017 by Jingthing
Jingthing
Muslim type restaurants, Pattaya-wide. The annual month long Islamic Ramadan thing which has a different schedule every year is now over. It's involves fasting all day for the entire period. You may have noticed many Muslim type restaurants of various nationalities either fully closed or open only at night. They should all be open again by now. Some of my regular places are in this category.
Popular Post champers
Interesting article from today's BP Business section: I will paraphrase. Hawker Chan, the Michelin starred street food outlet from Singapore, opened their first branch in Thailand yesterday at Bangkok's Terminal 21 mall. Later this year a branch will open at Royal Garden Plaza in Pattaya. The owner sold an operating licence for 8 years. Meals are in the 300 to 500 Baht price range (no streetfood pricing there) but some dishes are available at 100 Baht. Popular Post champers
BEEFEATER RESTAURANT AND PUB. This is just off 2nd Road on Soi Diana (the soi that is at the side of Kiss restaurant). Coming from Beach Rd on a bus, get off at Mikes Shopping Mall and walk through to 2nd Rd. I ordered a 250 Gramme Ribeye steak, cooked rare, price 765 Baht. There was a choice of sides included in the price and I went for the green salad. Also included was a medley of roasted vegetables. The steak was excellent, cooked as ordered and extremely tender. Service was very efficient and polite. No pudding today, will try the creme brulee at 150 Baht next time. This was a marginally better steak than the tenderloin I ate at Lone Star 10 days ago. The difference in price is about 500 Baht. What did I get for that? Well, there is more of a formal atmosphere; all the staff wore uniforms, linen napkins instead of paper and the food was served up more stylishly. I wore a shirt; good shorts and sandals, same as all the other customers in the place. I did go just after opening at 4pm. I knew it was expensive before I went in, so I have no complaints about the cost. I will return. RECCOMMENDED. 2

Popular Post Jingthing
Tarka House Bengali and Indian Restaurant Pattaya 13/4 Alley, South Pattaya (Boyztown area) Closer to 2nd than Beach BENGALI food in Pattaya! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d12416771-Reviews-Tarka_House_Restaurant-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d9722219-Reviews-Ruchi_Indian_Restaurant-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html You can see some sample Bengali food pictures at the links. But they're mixed with the Indian food. So if it looks very familiar, it's probably the Indian part. There are a number of places for this kind of food. Similar to Indian, but different. Generally the places that have Bengali also have Indian. I'll only be commenting on the Bengali food here. That doesn't mean it's not worth checking out the Indian food too. I'm just not focused on Indian as that is all over the place. But it's worth mentioning that the PRICES for their Indian look friendly too. What is Bengali food? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengali_cuisine Well, see the link but right off the bat there are a lot of dishes with MASHED stuff, they use a lot of MUSTARD OIL, fish curries are common, and the popular starch is RICE. I'll focus on Tarka House now, but the quality is similar to Ruchi on Pattaya Klang. There are one or two other Bengali menus near Ruchi on Klang and also on 2nd south of Soi Diana. Also there is probably still one or two Bengali menus on the "City Park" pedestrian street between 2nd and Beach south of Royal Garden. Too many to cover! I suspect they're all similar quality anyway. Generally the Bengali menu places are not expecting "foreigners" to be interested in the Bengali menu. So translations are generally not there and most places don't even have pictures. Tarka House and Ruchi do have pictures. Tarka House Bengali menu is in the ending part of their menu. Ruchi's Bengali menu is in the middle. So if you don't know this food (I certainly didn't before I started exploring it in Pattaya) it will take some work to figure out what the choices are. Lucky for you, I have translated almost the entire menu of Tarka House! You're welcome. For starters, I would suggest a fish curry and one of the MASHED mustard oil dishes such as potato or dal. So far at Tarka I have only had a spicy fish curry and a mashed dal. I totally loved the mashed dal! Believe it or not, it reminded me of ETHIOPIAN food, though obviously with different spices. This took me some time to do ... hope some people use it -- Quote Tarka house Bengali menu Alu vorta MASHED POTATOES 80 actually bhorta: Bhorta: Any vegetable, such as potatoes, beans, sour mangoes, papaya, pumpkins or even dal, first boiled whole and then mashed and seasoned with red shallot, fresh chile, mustard oil/ghee and spices. bagun vorta (bhorta) EGGPLANT MASHED 80 Alu dim vorta (bhorta) Potato egg mash in balls possibly steamed 80 miste lao vorta bhorta Something mashed but no idea what it is!?! 80 Moshur dal vorta, mashed yellow dal 80 had this, excellent Patla dal 80 Wet yellow dal Shol mas bhorta 150 Fish mashed in balls steamed w/ spices Vaje, they mean Bhaja FRIED Korla Bhaja 80 fried bitter melon Korla alu bhaja 100 fried bitter melon w/ potatoes dal vuna 80 another yellow dal Bajun vaje 80 bagun Bhaja Fried eggplant Dharosh baje (Bhaja) 80 Fried Okra Korla chingre bhaja 150 Bitter melon prawns fried Ful Kope Bhaja 100 Fried Cauliflower Chicken vuna (Bhuna) 180 a dryer curry Koi mas bhaja Fish fried dry 160 Rui mas bhaja Another fish fried dry 160 Dim Vuna bhuna 100 A semi dry spicy EGG curry Chicken curry 180 Rui mas vuna (bhuna) 160 Curry fish Rui maser jhol 180 Hotter fish curry I had, tomato based. I assume there won't be a massive number of choices for each national cuisine. Also some choices for German, Russian, and American. But not yet. Yes I know it sounds like a tourist restaurant trying to do too much so skepticism is well founded but I intend to definitely check it out for a bargain pasta and the Pan Asian menu when it happens.
