CHIANG MAI, Dec 30 - The northern province of Chiang Mai has welcomed a huge number of tourists during this festive New Year season, with all accommodations fully booked and about Bt1 billion expected to be circulated during the period.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand Chiang Mai Office director Wisut Buachum said this New Year season in the province is more lively than last year's, as all hotel rooms were fully booked during Dec 28-31 .

During the six days of festive holidays (Dec 28-Jan 2), Mr Wisut said about one billion baht will be circulated.

Mr Wisut expressed confidence that the tourism industry of the province will improve in 2013 due to several factors including the landscape, the completion of Chiang Mai International Convention Center construction, and the increase of direct flights to the city.

Another positive factor, according to Mr Wisut, is the rush of Chinese tourists flocking to visit Thailand in record numbers following the popularity of a new hit film sweeping China, “Lost in Thailand”, which is a compilation of stories based on real experiences of expats who have chosen Thailand as their home. Chiang Mai is among the locations filmed in the movie. (MCOT online news)

CHIANG MAI, Dec 30 - Tourists flocked to visit a national park in the northern part of Thailand during the festive New Year holidays, while the Northern Meteorological Centre said on Sunday that the temperature will continue to drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius until January 2.

Chae Son National Park chief Poolsathit Wongswat said a large number of tourists have spent their holiday in the park which is located in Lampang's Muang Paan district.

He said the park's 30 bungalows are fully booked, and it could handle about 500 outdoor tents.

Mr Poolsathit said about 350 tents and 2,000 tourists have enjoyed evenings at the national park with temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius.

Chae Son National Park, located about 60 km from Lampang provincial seat covers an area of 480,000 rai and encompasses a complex of mountains, six-level waterfall and natural hot springs which draw a number of tourists to bathe in the hot water amid the cool temperatures.

Meanwhile, the Northern Meteorological Centre reported the temperature in the region is expected to further drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius from today through next Wednesday.

The centre director Cjaroen Laohalertchai said the temperature of upper northern provinces averages between 10-15 degrees Celsius, while the lower North at 16-18 degree Celsius.

On the top of the mountains, he said, the temperature could drop to lows of 2-8 degrees Celsius.

Between Jan 3-5, he said there will be thick fog in the morning with low visibility of less than 5 kilometres that could affect the commuters in the North. (MCOT online news)

Every hotel fully booked? Each and every short time one? 24hrs a day? Every room, every hour? Why the need to lie?

Dave, the new tourists are Asian. They won't be seen in the bars on Loi Kroh, just tour buses visiting as many places as possible in as short a time as possible. The bars on Loi Kroh will last as long as the white man who comes here frequents them. When the rents are no longer being paid, they'll be replaced with more upmarket hotels.

The Thais have figured out the white man doesn't spend money like the man from China.
