After successful results to my previous request for a car air con man (thanks electrified for http://www.amnuaymotor2.com/) I'm leaking power steering fluid, well my car is, and also a little engine oil. My previous guy is just too busy and wants me to leave my car for 4 days but with the rental the price it would end up being more than the Ford dealership which is much closer to me. Sansai/Mae Jo area a plus but would like someone won't just start replacing parts until it works at my expense.

Try Jimmy.

Speaks very good English, used to have a repair shop in the US.

J&N Car Service (or something similar) on the ring road coming from the ping river bridge, just before or just after Global House. He is also quite busy but very good

I think I've come to the realization that dealerships are not the place to go when Real Work is needed. They seem mostly interested in doing easy, regular maintenance and selling you expensive spare parts and oils.

I had an intermittent problem with my truck for several months, with the engine occasionally choking/stuttering. Took it to the dealer who just changed all filters but failed to seriously look into the problem. So it persisted. Then I took it to a relatively professional looking work shop that at least sells quality spare parts at a better price, and was more serious looking into the problem, hooking it up to the engine analysis software (which the dealer failed to do), but ultimately did not find the problem though at least they washed the car as a free service, and they take credit cards.

Then, last week, the problem got a lot worse, occurring frequently now and causing the engine to cut out, meaning it now really had to be fixed. So I took it to a super basic looking work shop; no credit cards or receipts to speak of, your standard 'Greasy Ooh'. It looked like this.

BUT they fixed it in a day for 1000 Baht total. Which I suppose is high given that no major parts needed replacing, they just investigated properly, found an electrical cable shorting out and fixed that, resolving the issue. So I'm HAPPY. And done with the dealership.

(Might still do regular 'big' maintenance at the other place (Hang Dong road), better priced quality parts and good service, and they fixed a clutch problem on another truck I own very well and at reasonable cost. The Esso one on the Hang Dong road is good and take credit cards. This one: http://goo.gl/maps/1drTM )

You could try Khun Daychar for something like power steering and oil leaks. Great mechanic. Honest as the day is long. But does not speak a word of English. I can't find his card but if interested PM me for directions.

I think you would have to wait about 4 days for Jimmy to complete the job as well. He is always super-busy.

Jimmy's OK, but nine times out of ten your vehicle will be farmed out to one of his boys, who are not so good.

Thanks, not happy with Ford dealership, last time just had a small service and they put the air filter in upsides down so the hood would not even close and they just gave it back to me like that after they broke a hose and just taped it up and they charge for a level of service they do not closely give such as it would be nice if they have even heard of a service unless something is broken. Leaving my car at Jimmy's for four days for a four hour job is less than ideal and he does seem too busy to give me the care he use to. Thanks for the tips I'll check them out.
