Changing A Non Immigrant Visa To Marriage Visa

Featured Replies

I currently have a 1 year non-immigrant visa that expires in 1 month. I am planning to take a trip and come back and make a marriage visa as I am married. I don't really want to make a re-entry permit with only 1 month left. My question is, do I have to get a visa before returing to Thailand? What documents would I have to provide or can I enter on a 30 day stamp and apply for the marrige visa. Thanks

You need a visa before returning to Thailand. It should be a non immigrant O visa to allow direct extension of stay. You obtain with your marriage certificate and may also have to provide a copy of wife ID card (or even more information at some places).

Why not extend today; receive under review extension of 45 days, obtain re entry permit, travel, return, pick up extension of stay. Total extension/re entry cost 2,900 baht.

As you gave not timeline assume it is a short trip.

Perhaps the OP may be reluctant to visit Immigration at the moment because of 90 Day Reporting 'considerations'... :o

To be strictly correct there is no such beast as a "Marriage Visa"

You can apply for, or extend, a Non Imm O visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen.

Follow Lopburi's advice.
