Buying Banana Trees

Usually you will find the Thais regard those large bananas as only suitable for cooking , although the leaves and the bell (flower ) are also used in dishes. The smaller ones are the ones they usually eat as a fruit.

If you see a clump of the large bananas you may be able to negotiate getting a sucker from the base of the banana stool. Just dig it out and plant ans within a short time you will have bananas.

The commercial variety you're thinking of is Musa acuminata "Dwarf Cavendish". As was mentioned elsewhere in the thread, you just need to dig up a pup and attached chunk of corm (bulb-like mass in the ground, with roots growing out of it).

I know. Was just wondering if anyone knew where I could get the blue bananas. Preferably in Isaan but anywhere within driving or visiting distance is ok. Would like to get some seeds or live plants. One person said on another forum Chiang Mai
