Southampton have to be the biggest surprise of the season thus far to me. Can't believe how few goals they are letting

Yes, i must admit they have exceeded my expectations by a long way. But they are not in a false position. Pottechini has got them playing in an almost South American style, yesterday they were first to just about every ball, very fast, quick passing, both young fullbacks drive forward at every opportunity. Young Luke Shaw was creating mayhem down the left flank yesterday, poor Fulham just didn't know how to deal with it. I admit i was a bit sceptical when Pottechini was appointed, like most fans, i suspect, we had never heard of him. And Nigel Adkins was very popular at St Marys, the manner of his dismissal did leave a bad taste in the mouth. But credit where it is due, Pottechini has been a revelation, it is starting to look like a masterstroke by the chairman. The whole Saints story is a bit of a fairytale, less than four years ago they were languishing at the bottom of the third tier of English football with 10 points deducted. Nigel Adkins' role in bringing them to the Premiership in such a short time will never be forgotten by Saints supporters and he will always get a big welcome there. Alongside, probably Lawrie Mac, Matty Le Tiss, and Mike Channon, he will never have to pay for a drink in Southampton.

I like the look of their French midfielder (Morgan Schneiderlin - born in Alsace therefore sounds more German than most of the German national team). Same age as that other substantially less German-sounding German international midfielder Mesut Ösil.

Edit: woops - not true - Ozil (cant be bothered to find the umlaut again!) is ancient having turned 25 years 10 days ago.

Saints fans need to start "donutting" the St Mary's goal areas when playing against the less attractive teams!

their manager was a bloody good center back himself. Knows a thing or two about organized defending.

I guess Pompey fans have stopped laughing at you, after you passed each other heading opposite directions through the system.

Well Pompey find themselves in the same boat we were, ie, just about bankrupt, points deducted, ( which personally i think is unfair, smacks of kicking someone when they are down), languishing in the lower divisions etc. Saints were actually within 48 hours of going out of business at one point. So i do have some sympathy with Pompey fans. But not too much! biggrin.png Of course the two clubs do have a common denominator, Arry Boy!
