6. Some are definitely paying for the scene. Many single travelers that would rather pay 350-400B for a dorm than pay 800-1000B a night for a room, which I think is the best you will get here in Kata during the high season. We have been getting a lot of gap year students and others between jobs that are travelling for a month or more. These people that have x amount of cash and simply want to stay as long as possible. We have had few that stay for a month or more at a time.

The thing I admire about Rick, is that he never stops trying something new.

It is all very easy for all the arm chair critics to criticise and pass judgement, at the very least Rick is prepared to take a gamble or two, some work some don't,

But it must beat the sh@t out of wasting a life bitching on a forum about all the "losers in town" instead of grasping the opportunity to enjoy the tropical lifestyle and actually living rather than laughing at those who TRY.

Who is laughing? Simple questions have been answered with simple answers.

No need to blow it out of proportion and accuse people of bashing rick.

There are some very reasonable options for 500 baht per night in Kata.

I'll let everyone else decide if that is bashing or not.wink.png

Don't think I can answer your question here, but we have to be competitive with mostly backpackers. No plans for ribs I'm afraid. I wish he would too. Those were my favorite.

Ricky, Joe moved to Chalong.

Yes that's Ricky for you its seams that the dive thing and hostel was working for him. But I know that Joe works hard to make it happen. Where is he located in Chalong? Next year I want to dive so need his contact info.

I'm sure next year Ricky will have something new on the table.

Looking forward to seeing the new Dive shop.

Why not fill us in instead of being suggestive? Seems you know the deal.

As I said, Ricky has moved, Joe is working elsewhere, in Chalong. I think accouncing his employer is not up to me, but in a recent thread of his (service refused because first guest of the day should not be on credit) are some clues.

What ? I asked the question just to see where they are these days. If I knew what was the scoop I won't ask here.

Wow I feel like a celebrity. biggrin.png

Rick N Roll Music Cafe and Hostel has moved and changed name to <removed> Lots of construction going on for the next year behind the old location was the primary motivator for the move. Since people are asking, I am still involved there but on a part time basis. As stevenl mentioned I am working at a dive shop in Chalong now and it is a full time. I was offered mostly non-diving management position I couldn't pass up. Twelve years of diving takes it's toll on the sinuses and ears and I want to be able to dive when I get older like stevenl. smile.png

For those asking about diving with Rick, PM me is fine <advertising URL & info removed>

Why did he move?

Didn't he revamp the place not long ago to target the female backpacker market?

I did read your post, and the sentence you quoted.

My question still stands. What was it about the construction that forced the move? as it noise, flooding, traffic etc.

I would not imagine the backpacker market would be quick to complain about much.

Ah, ok. Noise, dust, construction traffic, fact that we were losing the outside seating. Wasn't only the complaints. It was unbearable.

Thanks Joe for the update. Before I went home noticed that the dirt between RnR and Chris's bar was being paved or dug up. So there must be a hotel being built in the back. Great for you Joe and Best of luck to Ricky on the new property, pass that along I know ricky not on TV these days.
