When Is The Best Time To Renew My Non-O Marriage Stamp Extension And Have 400K Thb In My Bank?

Hi members,

I got my first non-0 marriage stamp ago a year ago. It will expire on April 17th, 2013. As a result, I would like to know when it's best (safest) to renew the stamp for one more year?

Also, when should I transfer 400k thb into my bank account to meet the financial requirement? Note that once the 400k will be there, it will not stay for long as I use the money for daily expenses.

Thank you

You can apply for an extension of stay up to 30 days early and are advised to to it early, incase you forget some documents etc.

The money must be in a bankaccount in Thailand 2 months before you apply for the extension and during that time must not get under the 400,000 limit. You will need your bankbook and a letter from your bank to proof that.

Anothr option is to show an income of 40,000 a month. That can be from abroad and doesn't need to be received into a bankaccount in Thailand. For this you need a letter from your embassy confirming your income.

Some immigration offices like Phuket require the 400 K in the Thai bank account ( in your own name ) for at least 3 months.

2 Months is only for the first time extension.

The official ruling is 2 months for every application.

Maybe Phuket Immigration need to read the rules.

You tell them then.wink.png

Phuket use the 3 months period ( for consecutive extensions ) already for years and years.

I am just pointing out the law.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Same with Samui immigrations, they can either follow the rules or loose face.

Which one is more important. rolleyes.gif

Yep your right, But as we all know there is unfortunately a big difference between the rules and the actual situation.

Thank you very much for the meaningful information.

The bank needs to certify that the money is in the account and write the letter one day before I submit my renewal extension application. Is that right?

To do so, can I go directly to TMB in chaengwattanata so that they could print it right away as they should know what i need?

Posted

Correct but could be same day as there is a branch one floor below immigration that will normally be a good source for such letters or you can get from your normal branch but make an update or atm transaction on day of submission.

Ok. I just need to make sure they print the letter on the same day. Last year my Bangkok Bank branch needed 3 business days to get it because the certified copies come from the headquarters, according to the branch manager...

Your branch manager is the cause of that - the letter can be signed by any branch manager and does not have to be made at hqs AFAIK (and yes have had a manager pull that nonsense). There is no "certified copy" requirement - you need an original signed letter of account balance by the official charged with signing such at the branch. It is a routine service with a set charge and is typed up on site.

The topic here is visa renewal...

But I would like to add a comment on the requirements to show when applying for this visa for the FIRST time. The kind official at Chaeng Wattana asked me for an interesting document, not clearly identified on the list in front of us on the table. It was a document from the ampur where we registered our marriage. It was a document I filed with them when we were married (years ago) which states "I was single (or divorced) on the day I married my wife". I dont remember filing this but I am told I did file it.

At the Ampur Laksi they hemmed and hawed and said it would take days as it was filed upstairs in a storage room. I suggested they write a letter saying they couldnt find it but that my marriage docs are in order. They agreed.

I took the letter to Immigration and they said - OK. They cant find the doc. So it is not necessary.

This delay caused me 2,000 Baht overstay as I thought I had all docs in order. I write this as a reminder to myself as much as to share with anyone else. It always makes best sense to go early, expect irrational requests, and keep a copy of any freaking document ever made with Thai officialdom. And then, keep a sense of humor. Its part of the fun or it isnt. Its a choice.

This topic about extensions of stay based upon marriage to a Thai lady not visas.

Immigration at some locations will ask for a copy of the affirmation of permit to marry that you needed to get married for the first extension of stay only. After that they will normally will not ask for it.

It is good that you were able to get the Amphoe to write that letter for you. Some people have been unable to get copy because the Amphoe could not find it.

Thanks for reminding the distinction .... extension of stay is very different from visa renewal or visa application

There is no change in policy, so suspect it is some kind of communicaton error. A visa is never extended.

Did you want to convert from a tourist visa or visa exempt entry perhaps?

no i had a multi entry based on marriage there was no communication error they have stopped doing extentions for now maybe start again in 2 3 months

I would contact immigration at 1111 or 1178 and ask about this and see where you can get your extension if Chonburi is unwilling to do so.

If you plan on getting permanent residency or Thai nationality, it would be a set-back to get a new visa instead of an extension of stay.

I'm a little bit confused. Their are no multiple entry visa extensions, An extension based on marriage is good for a year without the need of leaving the country. After you receive the extension you can apply the single or multiple re-entry permit if you wish to do so.

Just to clarify, was your previous (extension) also issued inside Thailand or Is this your first extension based on marriage.

Other possibility is that the the Captain or the Lt.Col was not in the office and therefore that they did not accept the visa extension as this application has to by signed by the captain and the Lt.Col before it is send to Bangkok (or the other places if applicable) for final approval.

Which office in Chonburi.

You posted the same comment in another topic and have been asked the same question there.

Yours is the only post I know of that they are not doing extensions based upon marriage so it could just be a for that office only for some unknown reason.

Your financials were in place? If using bank account it had been in account two months? Your comment about maybe in 2-3 months seems to indicate this might be the issue. It appears you want a Thai wife extension of stay for one year?
