Ricardo
Still amazed at how this guy goes on the lam and his 2 sons get elected (one - Governor of Chon Buri, the other - Mayor of Pattaya). Surprised that he was recognized at the hospital as well, especially as he has been out of the limelight for quite awhile. Nothing amazing, just typical of a fuedal, corrupt country. If he has been in Thailand all this time, I wonder who has known of his whereabouts. Cue a deep-searching investigation, to find out the answers, by a certain DPM ? Popular Post dcutman
Well this is going to make for an interesting next cabinet meeting. Really, what is the point in having kids on the cabinet staffed with ex chief of policemen alongside, if they nab your dad? Cue some very embarrassing speeches about how they nabbed the fugitive who was apparently cunningly hiding in his house. Heads are going to roll over this when they should be praising it to the high heavens. This will make great watching. Doesnt seem to bother anybody that DPM chalerms son is a cold blooded murder, escaped convict and now a high ranking police officer. I personally think Po's son will be in the running for a high position, Edited January 30, 2013 by dcutman

Buchholz
Amazing Thailand never stops amazing. A team of police commandos (to thwart any rescue attempt) have escorted him to prison. He has been taken to Bangkok Remand Prison after he was medically cleared. He'll be free in 30 years and 4 months at the age of 104. http://www.dailynews.co.th/crime/181504 Edited January 30, 2013 by Buchholz
Buchholz
Before going off to prison, his son Wittaya and other family members met him at the court where the judge remanded Somchai to prison. Only Wittaya was allowed to speak to him and only very briefly. Wittaya, his son, President of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organisation. Buchholz
Sleep well tonight, Somchai... The other convicted fugitive politicians, Vatana and Thaksin, can come join him for some games of gin rummy in their shared cell when they're ready. Somchai isn't going anywhere for awhile. . Arkady
Some claim he has been hiding in plain sight in the family home in Chonburi for years with regular sightings by locals but a politician or politicians put in the knife. Maybe something to do with the vacancy at the Tourism and Sports Ministry. Just idle rumours of course. Wonder when Watana Asavahame will emerge from the family home in Samut Prakarn. Arkady
The investigation said no foreign passport was found and they think he didn't have one. It is unbelievable that he would not have purchased Cambodian nationality, as Watana, Jakrophob and other fugitives have surely done. They are readily available to foreign crooks at a modest price that was easily within the compass of Somchai's pocket. So why wouldn't he have bought one. But that would be embarrassing for our Cambodian neighbours, now wouldn't it? It might also be needed for his mysterious escape from the prison hospital, despite police commandos, frogmen and the whole 9 yards guarding him. The arrest would definitely have needed the green light from the DPM. Looks like he has been dying his hair. Buchholz
Sonthaya, his son, former Thai Rak Thai Party MP and Sports/Tourism Minister in Thaksin's Cabinet. He's currently the Culture Minister in Yingluck's Cabinet: Wittaya, his son, President of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organisation. Also President of the Chonburi Football Club: Ittipol, his son, Former Thai Rak Thai Party MP and current Mayor of Pattaya (and long-time Boy Scout): Looking forward to the press conferences of his three active politician family members explaining how for the past 7 years they've not had any contact with him, have not supported him in anyway, and were actively assisting authorities in apprehending him. That's gonna be some serious spin and denials. Or, maybe they'll all surprise us (like Somchai actually going to prison) and confess, resign, and plead guilty to all aiding and abetting charges resulting. Nawww..... only one surprise per family allowed. .

nidieunimaitre
Good. A criminal was arrested. Since all posters seem to dislike him, I assume he is linked to the other convicted criminal on the run. Now. Have any coup makers been arrested yet? And he's driven this route how many times? you reckon the police in chonburi would dare to even touch his car? Why would the so called red police even attempt this? This would never happen by luck, no way ever. New boss passed him onto the bangkok police with approval from the top of ptp. Someone instructed/allowed someone to make this happen. SamMunich
How can he get bail, if he has been convicted by the highest court possible for this kind of crime? Bail is only possible, if the whole process has not been final. Nevertheless I guess he will have a (or several?) luxurious cell and a top level medical support team, which will make it look like some holiday w/o the seaview... His sons, a mininster, a governour and a lord mayor will make sure he will not feel distressed in any way and that his business dealings will be smooth...On second thought, this might have been a political game to reduce the power of his family's party within the gov't coalition.
