Hi all,

We've had an upcoming work-holiday trip brought forward because of the work component - now I'm not sure if I can get the paperwork done in time.

We're married with young child. I plan to travel to London in Mid March, and for wife and child to follow a week or so later, and we all go on to Ireland together.

I just did the online application for the UK. What are the most important paperwork requirements?? She has plenty of her own income from online retailing, but no registered company or 'proof of employment'. How do we prove we have intent to come back? (can we use a new house purchase and mortgage as evidence? if so, how?).

How long after lodging the online application before you can book your interview? (we live up north and have reason to be in bkk late next week - so even if we did get supporting docs organized, is it too soon? - or do they notify you when they are ready ??

As for Ireland, their website says apply 8 weeks prior. Submitted application. What is supposed to happen next?

Any tips most welcome...

You can apply for the Irish visa when you get to London as I understand that all Irish applications here get sent to Malaysia for processing & that takes time during which your missus will have no passport at all

She has the documents from the bank about the house with floor plans, she can use them, my wife used these for her application, but she also works in a major Multinational company.

Regarding your wifes application for the UK, she can make an appointment as soon as the online application is submitted, so I would do it right away. You might be pushing it for next month, but she could just be ok, the UKBA will Fast Track applications in the case if there is a need for urgent travel, not sure that work commitments would count, but she could try.

If she has visited the UK during the last few years she could pay for her application to be Fast Tracked as a non urgent case.

This is a guide to the documents required http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/out-of-country/visitors.pdf

Not sure about the visa for Ireland, you are supposed to apply in the country of residence, and it does say that on their UK Website http://www.embassyofireland.co.uk/home/index.aspx?id=49653 but as you are married you might be able to apply under the EU Directive route in London, sorry but I'm not up to speed on that.
