Dylan Hall may be just three years old but he has already managed to become an internet sensation in his native Thailand.

He now lives in Wales with his Welsh father and his Thai mother, who frequently send YouTube clips of him to his far-flung grandparents in Thailand.

And one of those YouTube videos,

, has made Dylan a celebrity in Thailand.

Why do people feel the need to brag about how clever or beautiful their children are on the web ?

Does it make the parents look better ?

Why do the people feel the need to whine about how stupid and cunning their relatives and friends are on the web ?

Just take that falang. He met a very clever girl, not really young and beautiful, but really smart. After a year, you can hear him whining all day long how stupid she is. She cannot cook, she cannot iron, she cannot wash, she cannot do anything ... So he has to wake up every morning at 5 am to cook for the kids, drive them to school, rush home to do a bit of cleaning before driving his lady doing some shopping. After putting the kids to bed he has to iron when her brainless lady watch dumb soap operas. But strangely enough friends and relatives still consider her very smart.

How stupid Thai people are, don't you agree with me ?

These sound like the voice's of experience

I'm just saying you can have a happy, intelligent family without the need to post videos on the web about it!

His father clearly said they posted it for his grandparents in Thailand

If you have ever had any children you know how much the grandparents can love & miss them when they live

far apart.

There are otherways the parents can send a video to the family without putting their children on youtube.

But in Chittys defense the parents put it on public media ie youtube for the whole world to see. Now if they had of used email or facebook for example then that would been just for the grandparents, other family and close friends and viewed in a far more private manner, but no they didnt. The parents clearly and blatantly wanted their child to have maximum exposure for the reasons obvious.

Anyway big deal, my daughter will learn gor eire gor gai and shes much cuter.wub.png

I don't understand why a Thai 3 year old reciting the Thai alphabet and shaking his head would make him a celebrity.

My stepdaughter could recite it much more clearly and accurately than that when she was 3.

Still, I'm sure the Grandparents enjoyed it .

I don't feel a 'need' but often post things about my kids on facebook. I feel blessed that they are clever and beautiful and want to share with friends and family.

It doesnt make me look better but I do feel better - proud that an ex-hopeless drunk like me can have such wonderful offspring.

If you ever have kids you'll understand about pride.

I think it's a sad fact of life that most Thais think it amazing a three year old can recite the alphabet. Most only get started on reading and writing when they begin school.

Most Thai kids start school at 3 or younger.

Forgot to add: with all due respect, your post is actually of zero value as an accurate comment about Thais - but it does possibly tell us something about you.

I don't do much on Facebook but about 90% of it is about my kids (and by far the most popular stuff I post).

Why? Because it makes me feel good.

Pretty soon I'm going to start posting Youtube videos of them too as they excel at their favorite activities. Again, because it pleases me.

Social media is largely about self-indulgence as far as I'm concerned. Just as I don't have to pay attention to people's inane posts on FB about what they ate for breakfast or one line comment about their mood or a picture of a cute cat they saw, no one has to pay attention to pictures of my kids.

Not where I live. All the Thai kids I know started school at five or therabouts and sadly seem to lack alot of parental stimulation and education from birth. This is usually because the parents are hardly ever around and the kids are taken care of by other family members.

Not trying to put Thai parenting skills down but just an observation based on twelve years here with a family working in the Thai education system.

Why so harsh?

I too am surprised at the seeming amazement of many Thais when a youngster can read or write.

My own kids could both read and write at three. It is nothing special, just needs some time with mum and dad that's all.

Harsh? Not being harsh. I think the post may imply something about Thais that is inaccurate and insulting, if so that indicates something about the person who made it.

I don't have strong enough feelings about this topic to argue about it though.

It has been my experience over two decades that by far most kids go to at least two years of kindergarten and many do three beginning at 2 1/12 years old.

I live out in the country so virtually no preschool at all, maybe that explains our different experience.

I'm sorry if you took my post as being negative or insulting to Thais as it wasn't intended that way at all.

Just trying to express my surprise that most of the Thais I talk too find it amazing a three year old can recite the alphabet.

Yes, probably depends on area.

I'm out in the sticks and there is a pre-school so my daughter went at 2 years and 9 months. If I remember correctly, just about the first things that they learn are the alphabet and singing the National Anthem.

I am aware of another area where they have a preschool, but the teacher hardly ever bothers to show up. I bet that she collects her pay though.

I am very proud of my three children who could read and write before they were three.

I just don't feel the need to put them on public display via youtube and the web.

Some Thai people find this clip amazing because....

As parents the form of interaction and mental stimulation i have witnessed most in Thailand for toddlers is "Da err!" and a pinch on the cheek. Whereas in the West we generally push our children earlier, as we want them to be all they can be

I believe Euroasian children are the most intelligent children on the planet!

Having loving, caring parents that spend a lot of quality time together is also a factor.
