PM Yingluck assures long-term flood prevention to be implemented within 2013

BANGKOK, 7 February 2013 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has assured that the government’s long-term flood prevention program will be up and running before the end of 2013.

PM Yingluck Shinawatra, on Wednesday, congratulated Mr. Hiroshi Kobayashi, President & CEO of Asian Honda Motor Co. Ltd. and President of Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. on the Japanese auto giant’s successful sales in Thailand.

The PM also thanked Honda for its continued investment in the country, considered a crucial part in driving the economic growth of Thailand for many years.

During the meeting at Government House, Ms. Yingluck assured Mr. Kobayashi that the state-initiated long-term flood prevention program will be operational within this year, in a bid to boost investor confidence.

The Thai Premier also expressed confidence that Honda will not be affected by natural disaster again.

Mr. Kobayashi, in return, thanked the Thai government for all of its support, especially during the time when the flood crisis hit its operation badly.

And with high trust in the efficiency of the government’s short- and long-term flood prevention, Honda Motor has pledged to keep its presence, expand its investment in Thailand while making the country a key production base for exports in Asia.

This is the same Yingluck who inferred publicly that Thaksin does not Skype into the cabinet meetings. What a girl.

I wonder what the payoff was?

The present PM and her government have reset the payoff on the slot manchines, (cabinent) which are disbursing public funds. They have been covering by moving funds from one hand to another, but have gotten to the point that reserves are so low that they have to go after new sources of funds just to keep up the slieght of hand, shell game.

All the people of Thaland have seen and heard since this group came to power, are instruction to fix, and claims, we are going to fix what is broken., The reality of this circle jerk, is no one seems to know how to apprach a problem in a way that any real results are forthcoming to the Thai people. If the politicians used the level of expertice to solve problems that they use to enrich themselves, this country could be seen in a positive light instead of the way its seen at present.

Yingluck kowtowing to the president of Honda...cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

… and the rest of Thailand gets screwed and sh*****tloaded on as usual again...

As seen by another thread the Govt has no actual plans on how to go about any of this work and is waiting for those who want (have been selected) to do the job to come up with something they hope will do the job.

Given that they cant come up with plans of their own, and they have had a year or so since the flood, how are going to be able to properly asses the plans that are forwarded.

To say the 'auction' process, as they called it, can be done and the work completed, (how many billion was it?) in the remaining ten and a half months of the year is far from believable.

She has also given her word that Honda wont be flooded again... yea well.

Not only not flooded, but 'will not be affected by natural disaster again'.

Now, I know she's pretty high up but I didn't realise she was the big fella Himself.

Didn't she promised the same last year? You know, at the time that they railroaded the emergency 350 billion budget for flood prevention that hasn't been used (for that purpose at least) in the last 14 months or so.

I thought all this was promised in 2011?

And according to the Nation she said

"Honda will not be affected by natural disaster again"

which by strict definition means the entire Honda operation in all of it bases all over the world will not be afflicted by flood, earthquakes, pestilence, plague, idiots etc for all eternity.

But for those of us with more than one brain cell to rub together we deduce from the OP that either she was misquoted, or it lost something in the translation and that really one should just use the common sense they (hopefully) were born with and take a more reasonable stab at deducing what she said ourselves.

For those of you who take it literally just to try and score some political point, well, the Nation was made for you.

.... unless our comment was directed at NNT and not the PM.

Maybe the paper could take a stab at getting it right in the first place so our brain cell didn't have to labour so intensely.

On the other hand, maybe they got it right and quoted exactly what she said.

She also said STOP CORRUPTION - of course nobody took that literally either.

And what makes you think we want to sink down to the point of scoring political points.

If you followed her you would know that what she says is what ever. She is clueless.

I think she got confused in her speech. She was probably rattled at being so close to some one who was succesfull in his career.

What she should have said and it would be far more believable was in 2013 we are going to spend all the money we have for flood control. We don't know what we are going to do but by the end of the year the money will all be gone.wai2.gif

The Prime Minister has assured that the government's long-term flood prevention program will be up and running before the end of 2013.

Some think that a policy is implemented when it got placed on the agenda to be discussed in parliament. In that sense I'm sure the PM is absolutely right.

Now where did I put my boots and the rubber boat :-)

Up and running so soon? Normally they wait until caught out, investigated, charged and about to be found guilty before doing a runner. Some even wait until after they are found guilty knowing they will get bail no matter how serious the offense, and possibly a pardon before seeing a cell.

Long term flooding prevention? Absolutely. We can rest assured it will be long term. All the way till the next flood.

2 years after the great flood and we are still waiting

In other words, we were lucky last time, and the government calls their Bangkok draining a success, while Provinces like Ayutthaya suffered big time again...giggle.gifgiggle.gifgiggle.gifgiggle.gif

This is close to defaming the government of our real PM, Ms. Yingluck that is. Let me tell you that most of the water was gone by February 2012 and most factories running again after Songkhran 2012, hardly 11 months have past.rolleyes.gif

Following a 'long-term' flood prevention will be implemented this very year 2013, almost short-term you might say. There seems to be a need to get rid of some multi-billion THB budgets and borrowed amounts as the 'rice mountain' as collateral might see some negative value increase wink.png

Actually I think the rice mountain is the plan, when the flood comes they will pour the rice in, it will soak up the water and they can truck it to a landfill. All fixed, Hey it as feasible as 1000 boats!
