Window Tint Options..

Featured Replies

I've decided not to take for cheap tint offered by suzuki and get something a little better. Let's say in the 7-10K baht range. Anyone have a particular preference? I just know of lamina, 3M, Hi-kool. Ae they pretty much the same or is one better value than the other. I'm thinking to go 60% darkness in the rear and 40% for the front windscreen and side windows. I currently have 60% on my civic front windows and it's a little dark at night, though I grew used to it.

Apparently some recommend 3M crystalline film.... I guess we would have to look at it on an actual car to appreciate it.

I did look but most of the recent posts were discussing darkness of tint, but not the brands per se.

I also heard / read crystalline 3M is good, but believe this is around 15K or so.

...if you can find a shop which actually has it,not to common..

That's correct......had to call 3M in BKK to ask which shops have Crystalline. Only 2 in BKK, none in Hua Hin.

Any thoughts on V-cool? They seem to have a large variety of tints. I'm mostly interested in cutting down heat, and not having it exceedingly dark. These seem to be the most expensive varieties though.

Al three of our Toyotas came with "hi-kool". Very happy with it.

Had Crystalline installed at a shop mogandave recommended in the Bang Na area of Bangkok. Very good service there. Had C70 installed on the windshield and C40 on the rest. 3M Crystalline uses a different way of describing the tint. C70 means that 70% of light can still pass thru, C40 means 40% can pass. So really C40 is like what most companies would call 60% tint.

Very impressed with the Crystalline. For what would be 60% on the sides that would in my opinion be too dark for night is just fine and the daytime reduction is amazing.

Not cheap though.......

So how much was it, then ?

The first shop wanted 17,000 baht, got them down to 16,500. The shop Mogandave recommended (Variety Car Film and Sound) wanted 16,000 but when I mentioned that another fellow (mogandave) got his done for 15,000 they did it for that price.

Cheers for that, i need to get mine changed as it's too dark to drive at night, so might check the crystalline.

I was going to put the Crystalline only in the windshield and the 'regular' 3M for the rest of the windows,but....they asked 7K(!) for the Crystalline and 4K for the rest....so,I've reconsidered and did everything in 'reg' for 4.5K Baht(New Ranger)...

...that's 15% for the front and 60% for the rest...perfect!!

Yes, Crystalline is expensive but for the equivalent of 30% for the windshield for day it is almost unnoticable at night. Same for the rest, what filters out 60% of sun is like 30% at night. In my opinion regular 60% even on the sides is way too dark, you need to roll the windows down to use the mirrors at night.

Anyway, I'm not a 3M salesman just happy with what I have, each to his own.

Don't get me wrong....if I didn't mind spending all this money,I'll get Crystalline, but the 'regular' 3M stuff felt like a good compromise for my application....smile.png
