Transport From Hkt Northbound-Options?

Hello all Phuket-dwellers!!

I am searching for some advice regarding transport from HKT going NORTH-bound (to Khao Lak area)

I know a private taxi would go for around THB 1500, but are there any other options such as mini-vans which wait until full and then leave? (similar to those going to Patong, Karon, Kata etc...)

If there aren't any such vehicles, I suppose I could try getting a taxi or tuk-tuk to take me out to the main highway / road (about 5 KM maybe??) and then just waiting on the north-bound side of the road for one of the buses coming from Phuket Bus station and "flag it down" to stop for me? I understand that fares are very cheap (THB 150) but I don't know how long I'd be waiting for one to come?

The one positive is that I'll be arriving HKT early afternoon (13:00), so if there is a mini-van service to Khao Lak, then my chances are good of getting a seat.

If anybody has some direct experience, I'd appreciate your advice and input.

i can drive you for 2000thb or you can take chicken bus for 5 hours..
