Tachilek Accomodation

Featured Replies

Hi there,

can anyone recommend a nice guesthouse in Tachilek? It should be in the 200 - 400 Baht range, no air-con required and shared bathroom is ok as well. Should be clean with fresh sheets, safe, and centrally located.

Thanks a lot in advance,

mio

Walk all the way to the bridge...turn left and walk the street that goes along the river (on the thai side)...you'll see a sign for blue house...rooms are 250-350 baht ..private bath...decent spot....

Thanks a lot pomchop,

but I'm looking for a place on the burmese side, as I want to stay in Tachilek for a couple of days.

sorry never stayed on the burma side...

Not sure about nice but ok. Walk thru immigration up to the main road, Turn right. Walk along this street you will see small signs pointing down side streets. There is an ok one near a temple. There are some in the market area just over the bridge but they are a bit short time and would be noisy.

Maidu is the board resident expert on Tachilek and environs but he doesn't come by every day.

May Motel is about 1 km down the road to the right after you pass through immigration and walk ahead (through all the hawkers) to the traffic circle. It has quite small (but suitable for me) rooms with single bed and room for 150 Baht, or an in-room toilet and pair of large beds for 250 baht, downstairs. I think they have ones with TV for a bit more as well. There's also Erawan Hotel, rooms for 300 baht but basic; turn right at the traffic circle, maybe 200 meters ahead on a road to the left...both are 20 baht on the motorcycle or 40 baht on the tuk tuk from the border area. Accommodation is more basic on the Burmese side but it's much more interesting IMO. There's a nightclub at the Mekong River Hotel that's been pretty lively every time I've been there.

that's funny, I've never been called a 'board resident' (nor a bored resident) of anything, as far as I've heard. I like Erawan (right at turnaround at end of short bridge road - 2 blocks - take left, and it's 37 bear paces on left. It's like a wood carving museum inside.
