BANGKOK: -- A Bt100,000 reward will be offered for information on the hiding place of a couple charged with detaining and torturing a 12-year-old Karen girl after they failed to report by yesterday's deadline, police said.

"We will forfeit their bond and seek arrest warrants for them," said Pol Colonel Akkasorn Srisupat, superintendent of Muang Kamphaeng Phet Police Station.

Natee Taeng-orn, 35, and Rattanakorn Piyaworatham, 33, had been released on bail.

A source said Pol Lt-General Wanchai Thanadkij, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 6, had ordered a manhunt for the pair.

The badly burned victim, who is now at a state children's home in Kamphaeng Phet, is socialising well with others but still shudders at the sight of hot things.

During her years of enslavement, she was forced to do housework and when her alleged attackers got frustrated with her, they poured hot water over her body, badly scarring her.

...and lets say they do capture this couple....then what?....I find it hard to believe they will do any real time...IMO the reward and potential capture is all a PR stunt to pacify global human rights groups

I'm not so sure they won't do time. Those of you who watched 'Bangkok Girl' the film mentioned in another recent thread, may remember that the girl Plaa had her hand plunged into boiling water by her step mother. The step mother got three years.

An engineer and a dog grooming shop owner from a small town who can't even afford to pay someone to provide domestic chores wont have deep pockets to stay on the run for long, especially if they already stumped up the bail money in the first place. Doubtful they speak Khmer. They'll have a pretty shitty existence even if they remain on the run. Of course I hope they get caught but they wont be living it up in Rio if they dont.

After all she's been through, she is now paraded in front of a crowd of male photographers to have her injuries stared at and photographed?

Whatever is sick with this country, it doesn't just stop at the people who inflict this pain and injury.

After all she has been through, I imagine that having her injuries photographed and publicised would be the least of her worries.

It would seem there is far greater concern being expressed by westerners on TV with a very contemporary sense of morality.

The girl (from her appearance in the photos) shows no obvious signs of pubescence. Despite their numerous shortcomings, I am confident the Thai police would have handled this differently if that were not the case. I also cannot remember seeing any photos of her face, which would identify her.

I am starting to worry whether I should delete and shred the numerous photos I (and other family members) have of my pre-pubescent children and grand-children, taken in such settings as the bath, and at the beach.

You are missing the point, it does not matter if she shows signs of pubescence, it matters that she is 12 years old, and therefore most likely does not want to be paraded around naked in front of a large crowd of men with cameras. Unlike you I am confident the Thai police and press barely consider this girl human, she is not Thai afterall.

I guarantee you that there would be public outrage and legal consequences in my homecountry, if male officers were looking at or taking naked pictures of 12 year old girls for any reason!

There appears to be some reports not shown on this site, ie. the pictures of the girl being "paraded naked in front of a large crowd of men". This site shows one picture of the girl with the back of her shirt lifted up, that's a long way from being paraded naked and male officers "taking naked pictures of 12 year old girls".

There has been many articles about this. At least one of them shows the girl with a naked upper body and no bra. Granted, the published pictures were fortunately only of her back, but there were lots of guys visible on those pictures sitting taking pictures in front of her or just looking at her - and no women around!

I am not saying they have bad intentions, simply that no 12 year old girl I know like to show her breasts or anything else to a group of grown men, no matter how developed or undeveloped she may be. And yes, if the police did this in many western countries, they would be in trouble.

I get the online news from the paper that shall not be named, in one of the articles a policeman who was interviewed said it is likely the couple have fled the province and there have been several withdrawals from thier bank accounts, they vould be anywhere in Thailand or in any of the neighbouring countries.

This story is a true tragedy. What makes me equally as sad is the fact that NOT 1 PERSON has talked about trying to help this poor girl. While everyone talks about how tragic this is, I am off to Khampeang Phet in the next few days to donate whatever gifts I can to this poor girl and the foundation that is caring for her. If anyone else is in the BKK area and wants to help out, then PM me, the rest of you can continue in your bitter attitudes.

Suggest you read all the various sites, there has been content about helping the girl. My Thai adult son says there are numerous Thai sites / media organizations., and more who have provided / offered help and support, some long-term. Whether it all comes to pass is of course a wait and see.

Yes a lot of posters have expressed sadness, disgust, shock, concern, etc., and quite a few including a desire to persoanally punish the perpetrators of this severe violence on a small defenceless kidnapped child. Is that really 'bitter attitudes'?

Have you not seen the video it clearly shows the girl paraded naked with the exception of her undergarment (bottom only) the video also shows her chest area which looks just like her poor back no resemblance of breast just a burnt mess (I read they cut off her nipples as well as her ear lobes) the video in no way sexual in any way but certainly heart wrenching that this poor girl was subjected to this torture and now it continues by being paraded in front of men taking pictures of her in public which is VERY INSENSITIVE with no consideration for the girls privacy.

I hope this SCUM is caught and the THAI MOB attitude takes over and KILLS these 2 MFer's

The video is on Youtube, if you need to see it. The Bangkok post has it in its article on this story.

I remember a case some years ago when a thief already under arrest was set on by a mob who beat him to death while the arresting policeman did nothing to stop them. This was a Thai on Thai crime, the robbery I mean, and happened on Sukhumvit around Soi 30 if I recall correctly. I wouldn't care, in the short term anyway, if something similar happened to these two monsters.

I understand that there are organisations in the US who make a business of bringing bail jumpers back into custody and they are not too fussy how they achieved their ends. Maybe somebody is thinking that there is a business opportunity here.

I sent the original release of this disgusting case to international media....albeit nothing has been posted.....regardless..I'll now send this latest bul..sh.t!!

She wasn't raped, so they don't care. Mutilation isn't as bad as sexual assault.

Why am I not surprised that the couple have absconded after being freed on ludicrously low bail?

Are we in Saudi Arabia that local citizens are considered the master race who are entitled to torture and murder servants and slaves who come from despised untermensch races?

Is cutting off a girl's nipples and parts of her ears with scissors in addition to keeping her in an animal cage and scalding her with boiling water so trivial when it is done to a foreigner of no consequence that the suspects should be freed on bail?

The only people who benefit from this are the police who obviously took a bribe to allow bail and will probably try to get a cut of the reward, if it is given.

I am surprised the Culture Minister has not protested to foreign media who bother to report this aspect of true Thai culture.

Which ever way you look at it, the brutal treatment of this child, the way she was been treated previously when she escaped, and the way she in being handled now - having to pose nearly nude for photo's (the photo's were necessary but it could have been done with a bit of consideration) and the release on bail of the scum-bags responsible and the apparent lack of interest from the pollie's leaves me and I would bet many many more people saddened and near speechless.

If I knew where they were I would be more than happy to leak it to the Thai's people well before the authorities in the hope that natural justice would prevail and save a lot of the hassles of arrests, more investigations etc etc.

On your last paragraph, there is total silence from the PM (herself the mother of a small child and self proclaimed champion of womens and childrens rights etc.,), the whole puppet government, chalerm (often misaligned - but normally never lost for words) and senior police, child welfare and protection agencies, the Pavena organization etc., total and absolute silence. Herein tells their lack of concern & compassion.

One would surely expect that if this was a Thai child the heads of various government agencies etc., would be lined up to show their crocodile tears but of course ensure they grab the photo op.

Lost for words.

Yes it has and if there was a real news paper in Thailand they would publish the names of the close friends. Sickening journalism if you can call it journalism.

Additional comment:

How come no comment from the US Ambassador or the Human Rights agencies etc., from the US Govt., normally not backward in making statements about issues of concern plus no holds barred criticism of other governments. Various other governments / various UN agencies also no comment.

The silence is deafening.

Why?

Okay, let me just get a grip on this:

1) a Thai- couple kidnaps a little Karen-girl

2) They keep her as their personal slave

3) They mistreat her in the cruelest of ways

4) the girls manages to escape, runs to the police...who return her to her dungeon- masters

5) the torturing continues

6) the child escapes a second time

7) the torturers are set free on bail

8) the little girl is paraded in front a bunch of (male) photographers, halfnaked

9) the torturers skip bail and are now gone with a reward of 100.000 baht on their heads

10) as we see in the OP, the girl is paraded again in front of (male) photographers

...is there anything else, the Thai- "authoroties" could have done wrong, to make it even worse?

Anything???

Seems to me if they want these two found they should post the pictures of the fugitives, not the victim. But then maybe that was part of the bail agreement; "here's some money to let us go and you also agree not to post our pictures".

That may be because of the growing influence China is exerting in Asia, the US needs Thailand as a strategic partner, if they make too much noise they may rock the boat, so better to stay quiet and maintain good relations than to upset the apple cart and have Thailand form a strategic partnership with China. Just my two cents worth, and the most likely reason America would maintain silence on such a serious issue.

She's smiling in a mugshot . . . what a piece of garbage.

I do hope that they are caught and punished to the maximum

You think that's a smile?

Isn't that from her Thai ID card?

Of course it is - but that idea doesn't fit in with the TV mentality. Far better to be a "mug shot". sad.png

Ah, I didn't realise . . . my ID didn't/doesn't have a height scale behind me. Looked like a mug shot.

My apologies . . . and I am hardly part of the TV mentality . . . but if you wish to brush with broad strokes then you are the fool.

Eh? Has not the USA put Thailand on various watch lists for matters such as money laundering & human trafficking. Doubt that the US State Department would officially comment on an individual case of child abuse.during an ongoing criminal investigation.
