Any Canadian food around?

41dGzYc.jpg

Poutine Porn. Gotta love it!

Honestly though. Anyone know where you can get some poutine?

Poutine would be a good one for the menu at Dukes. French fries, cheese curds and lots of gravy

Especially in keeping with the Dukes policy of generous servings.

Oh yes!!! A couple of sausages (links or pattys,) a pile of bacon, a few eggs, pancakes with maple syrup, maybe a side of homefries or hashbrowns grits with butter and salt.... Hard to beat!

I don`t know many places in Chiang Mai that do a good breakfast because most of the lazy slob owners don`t get out of bed until 11.00am, sometimes later if they have been on the nest with they’re girly friends all night. You see it`s all the big profits they are making and have no need to rush and open they’re restaurants during the early hours.

I can recommend the UN Irish Pub that serve excellent breakfasts at reasonable prices and before some smart ass reminds me that the theme of this thread is, good American food, regarding breakfasts, the UN Irish Pub serve the nearest thing to them.

As for decent American grub, than you wont be disappointed at The Dukes. Dave the owner, a very nice man, once thought I was a Brit and told me I had to sit outside with the other peasants, but later I convinced him I am half American and half English, a right Yanker as described by my one and only friend, who sadly died last week. So he gave me a special stars and stripes sticker and let me sit inside the restaurant with the American people, after I had sworn my allegiance to the American constitution, which is on the menu. At first I thought Dave was a bit harsh, but than thought, what decent American person would want to share tables with a Brit? The shame and embarrassment of it all.

The Dukes is advertised on here, check it out and give it a try.

I'm in Atlanta right now and we were at Pappadeux's last week. Crawfish Etouffee was quite tasty. We'll be back to Chiang Mai when the VA quits finding things to do to me.

3 Pigs or Soul Kitchen. It's between the Samsung repair center and Chang Puak on Maneenoparat. That's just north of the moat. Eclectic American food with huge portions. Mostly Southern, but there's a lot of fusion influence in the menu. Well worth a try.

Not too sure about the chicken fried steak thing. Never was a fan, although I remember having a decent meal of it near Houston, Texas one afternoon. It's a good way to disguise low-quality meat.

Also not sure about breakfast, but I know they serve waffles.

The waffles are good here but like you say the fried chicken seems a bit on the low quality side. Best quality fried chicken steak I've had is at the Dukes. Nothing about it tastes bad quality.

For our Non-USAian friends, Fried chicken steak and Chicken-fried steak are two different dishes. One is a fried boneless breast of chicken and the other a batter-coated deep fried Cube Steak (a cut of tough beef that's been badly beaten up to tenderize it...) The latter is guaranteed to clog arteries, but tastes soooo good doing it!

Thats right a real Country fried steak (chicken fried steak) uses beef.

havent found one yet, everyone uses chicken including Dukes...if i want fried chicken i'll go to kfc...lol

Anyone know if Pun Pun uses beef?

Perhaps you lot should stop asking for chicken steak then.....ask for a fried beef steak or however you wish to pronounce it maybe you'll all get it.

Who in their right mind calls a beef steak chicken steak...regardless of how it is culinary destroyed to appeal to the yankee taste bud.

It is really a joke to ask where to get good American food in Chiang Mai or anywhere else. What is American food? There are not many indigenous Americans left to ask! Most were slaughtered by the immigrants from Europe. So what we have is a mixture of foods brought from Europe to the US of A.Cajan,French,Italian and so many more to name.Wow Tex-Mex food is great but here in CM you can find all you want if you look.I am sure that some of the most uneducated posters here who knock "Spotted Dick" have never eaten this lovely dessert! I have in NYC a few years ago,and have also made it at home for my friends.

As KRS1 ( who cannot spell) Haggis is from Scotland and is delicious if you drink enough whiskey first! It actually does taste really nice.

The Dukes has a good menu but I am not sure what is good American food! Gekko Gardens? Maybe the OP should try and quantify exactly what he means.

Is it a joke to ask for good Brazilian food (heavily influenced by Africa and Portugal)? Good Argentinian food (heaving influenced by Spain and Italy)? Good Peruvian food (heavily influenced by China, Japan, Spain, Italy, and Africa)?

Two important points;

The beef (maybe this actually makes it three, 'cuz it's beef rather than chicken,) used is normally a very tough cut so it must be tenderized in a really severe manner. This type of tenderizer, rather than just the 'hammer' sort.

Next, the name is Chicken-fried Steak, not Chicken Fried Steak. There is that little line between the 'chicken' and the 'fried.' It means, as other posters have tried to tell the unknowing, that this BEEF is being cooked in the same manner as chicken.

Chicken-fried Steak is a regional cuisine found more in the southern US states rather than the north. Often served with a thick brown gravey. (Between you and me, it's a terrible sin to do to a piece of beef, but there is no accounting for taste.)

I've had it many time in southern US states where it was covered in white gravy that is made by adding milk and flour to the grease that remains from frying. Usually served with biscuits. Nothing healthy about it but it is very tasty.

What type of biscuits do you serve with it - Rich Tea, Digestive, Hob Nob?

Sorry - couldn't resist - I love the differences between the English and American languages ;)
