Hi, I've got an 18 year old BMW that I automatically reinsure yearly -- now that the replacement value is so low - do I need comprehensive insurance? I've always felt that having first class comprehensive insurance is a good thing to have when driving in Thailand -- grateful for advice, thanks, Robert

Get with a insurance broker there are so many options out there that cost so much less than 1st class insurance. I was planning to sell my car within the next year but all insurance is for a full year here. So I took out a cheaper policy that saved thousands but still good liability covers.

Probably first class insurance is not worth it anymore, but 2nd class insurance could be worth it. Check it out or have it checked out by a professional for you.

Have 2nd class on my cars for years...

Pickup buy a new one every 3 years, 1st class for 1st year as normally in the deal, after that 2nd class Plus.. is a lot cheaper + in many cases just as good as the Free 1st class..

I always use a broker. Insurance companies and agents such as banks can offer only a limited range of products. Try BSI in Bangkok to see what reduced covers they can offer.

I don't think you can get first class on a older vehicle. I use Chaz brokers, they can always suggest suitable policies, I've changed my insurance company every year for five years, as Chaz will always suggest a different insurer offering the same coverage with a lower premium.

My experience also, I was wondering how the OP got comprehensive insurance on an 18 year old vehicle.
