I'm getting conlicting reports about Chiang Saen.

Any information is appreciated.

-When crossing border at Chiang Saen, is passport stamped out?

- Do you cross into Burma or into Laos?

- Is immigration offices currently open on both sides?

- 15 day stamps available here, same as Chiang Khong and Mae Sai?

thanks....

First state nationality as advised

The only options for non ASEAN LAO THAI ETC OR Burmese from here is into bokeo province laos where there is a casino and regular ferries in daylight.

It is not suitable for visa runs by me.

Second when running you can take a ferry to near Mengala /Che'li Xishanugbanna prefecture aka Sipsongpanna in Yu'nan for which most nationalities require a pre arranged visa from the Chinese Embassy or consulate in C Mai cost around 1000 bahts minimum for westerners less for Thais and double for Amricanas.

If you can negotiate and get by in Chinese ou can go on commercial boas as I do.Howver since killigs in Octobe r2011 I doubt any travel insurance will cover you and without a Chinese speaking wife it may be too difficult.

If you ever plan to return to Thailand on same passport vital to get an exit stamp the day before, agents in C Saen and an extraordinarily helpful Singapore Policeman who 'lives' there

Of course if Bokeo is your destination why not fly on Lao Aviation to HOE Ban Huay Zai from BKK or CNX via LPQ

If ou merely wish to extend life in Siam Xhiang Khongs ferry or soon new bridge allows same day turn around Lao via 0-42$US depends on passport and MAE SAIISAI500 BAHTS OR CLEAN CRISP $10

you will get better answers if you identify nationality and travel purpose etc
