So I Was In The Casino.......

I was in the Casino in Glasgow last night watching Motherwell's fantastic, amazing and superb victory over that wee East End team Celtic, ( I'm a Motherwell fan in case your wondering ) when in strolled 3 Isaanettes, I know they're from Isaan cos I asked them just in case your wondering.

My pal recognized them from a new restaurant which has opened slap bang in the middle of Buchanan Street, the most expensive rental street in Scotland I believe, and one of the busiest shopping streets in the World. My pal commented that it was very expensive, he's an Advocate, ( the same as a Barrister in England ) and if he 's complaining about the price it must be nippy. There's been a fair few Thai restaurants opening recently though I'm not in the habit of using them. I've got it in my head that they can't compare to Thai food a la Thailand so I don't bother.

Anyway the Isaanettes then proceeded to hammer dough into the slot machines, one of them was a little older and very well turned out, she blasted away for a couple of hours then pulled a decent win. The other two seemed to have been on a loser last night. I was having a blether to the barmaid and she said they were in every night of the week after work. She also mentioned that there are a lot of Thai customers in the Glasgow casinos these days.

I've heard some horror stories about Thais getting in over their necks with gambling in the Kingdom, how serious a problem is it?

Extremely serious.

Also mixed in with loan sharks and prostitution to pay debts.

A mates wife had acid thrown in her face when she was late paying ...... this was in Soy 3 in CM.

Then there's the police raiding gambling dens.

I saw an unmarked pickup drive up to hotal reception, four or five girls playing dominos at 10bht a game.

Plain clothes jump out, grab the girls and put them in the van, drive off. 15k each bail to not sleep in the cells.

In front of the judge and 10k fine each the next morning.

They will gamble their house, gold and car away if they get the urge.

Not to mention telling their children to go and get money from ....... to carry on playing.

Guess what the kids have to do ...... seen a 14 year old girl sent off to find 500bht.

It's really nasty, and widespread.

Same story. Any club or casino at around 10 or 11pm on any night in Australia. The Thai ladies sure love and know how to throw away money on the poker machines.

The Chinese go the casinos after work too, but they usually play blackjack and with much bigger money.

Saw the same thing last time I was home in Aberdeen.

Took a random visit to the Casino and well over half the female customers were Thai - several small groups of them, in the bar and at various card tables and on the slot machines.

A mix of restaurant staff and their mates, and according to my mates who are regulars at the casino, these gals are in there every night - gambling, drinking and some of them on the game.

It appears the Chinese have been the backbone of the British casinos for a while, or more accurately the Cantonese. By the sound of it the new influx of Thai residents appear to be heading for the Casinos in great numbers too.

Without their ''partners''. coffee1.gif

Well that's a point, there's probably loads of the ladies using their partners as Trojan Horses to get into the UK. I didn't see any partners last night and on the occasions out-with last night that I've met Thai females in Glasgow I've yet to see one with a partner. I never ask and I've not intention of ever asking about their relationship status, nothing to do with me.

But it is an eye opener eh. My mates ex is on benefits in UK which is paying for a house in LOS and gambling in UK, but we cannot claim an upgraded pension in LOS. Oooooops, sorry, off topic. coffee1.gif

Well there appears to be loads of divorced Isaanettes cutting about Scotland ermm.gif

Re what GooEng said, it also appears that there is a height restriction on said Isaanettes, if your over 5 foot tall your not allowed in the UK, ( that's how it looks anyway ). I thought it was a Hobbit invasion last night. blink.png

Exactly the same in Holland.Casinos there are full of asians in general. The thais love to gamble. When I was living there, they'd always have a card session going on somewhere. If they weren't in the casino, then they'd be holed up in a massage parlour betting huge amounts of money.Seen so many of them end up in serious debt.Pretty sad really.

I forget where I read it, but I believe that gambling is a bigger problem in Thailand than drugs, alcohol or prostitution.

A friend of mine said once that if she had not gone to prison she'd have probably lost her house gambling

I used to be a croupier at westcliff casino in southend on sea Essex, Chinese are at it every night after their restaurant/take away closes, the Thais are rampant though these days....as far as I know you don't get many eastern Europeans there....

A ex work colleague(thai) of my missus has had to move away due to getting in over her head, her husband has had to rent the house out and move into the seperate garage....

As above yes any Thai woman or women from anywhere that are married etc in these place will end up to no good....Southend seafront or Glasgow casino on a cold winters night are not exactly Vegas are they....

a dream business in thailand, the first poker machine licence, 10 baht slot machines, small money but think of the turnover, first arcade open, next to the bargirls/mia farangs favourite western union in pattaya.

seen a few thais at the casino here, most of the older isarn types seem to go to the pokies as do the older western ladies, no need for calculating things there, but koreans and chinese to the roulette and blackjack.

The stories I could tell, but we arent allowed to name and shame.

Forget losing mobile phones and Tellys, they are the least of your worries, cars, houses and businesses have all been gambled away.

However one story that really sticks out, a guy being called by neighbours while on the back shift, they had found his two children (aged 2 and 4) wandering in the street about 8 at night.

Mother had just left the children in bed in the house alone and went off gambling.

Heard it all before, the promises, the trips to the temple to pray to monks never to do it again, its all BS.

Its the mentallity of certain Thais, live for the moment, conflict avoidance by telling you what they think you want to hear to make the problem go away right now.

Of course the problems will rear its ugly head yet again, my advice, nip it in the bud, or walk away, it will save much pain and despair in the long run.
