So I Was In The Casino.......

I went back to the old country for the first time in several years around the time of the Pitoddrie test against Tonga. Well, obviously, that was shocking and depressing, but I was more appalled by the proliferation of fruit machines. Even at the airport in the waiting lounges.

Though I suppose the most distressing thing I have ever seen, several years ago, was an Australian pub with a bank of fruit machines, and also an ATM.

Get pissed, drain your bank account, and lose it all in the puggies, all on the premises.

I'm no puritan when it comes to gambling, but I do think, like alcohol, it should not be forced on you everywhere you go. I'd rather sit next to a smoker than a fruit machine

SC

You were sitting next to one! :D

Years ago there as a bookies on Crown St which I had never seen anyone go near until one Friday night the place was packed with Chinese.

So packed in fact there must have been a hundred of them congregating on the street outside.

Big bucks indeed.

My Thai ex-wife had a gambling problem. When things went southbound relationship-wise, she was a resident of Holland Casino. Through her i have let's say 'tasted the flavour' of the underground gambling scene 'overseas'. Ahem.

I feel reluctant to speak about this. Better not

Has anyone one been to one of the unlicensed Casinos in BKK we sometimes read about?

Yes, there used to be a smallish place operated out of a room above a guesthouse I stayed in many years ago. It was quite the place, with air-con, satellite telly, food & drinks to order, and it operated literally 24/7. 3 card tables playing Thai Dummy (very similar to Gin Rummy) and runners taking bets to underground bookies for all the major sports. The most frequent customers were prostitutes of both sexes, pimps, mama-sans and policemen.
