The principle role of the Honorary Consulate is to offer consular assistance to Britons in the Chiang Mai area. This is done in close co-operation with the British Embassy in Bangkok.

Please note that applications for passports and certain other consular functions have to be forwarded to the Embassy in Bangkok, and adequate time should be allowed for this.

The relevant application forms are however available at the Honorary Consulate in Chiang Mai.

The Honorary Consulate also assists with the administration of development projects in the Chiang Mai area. The Consulate can also assist with commercial enquiries, principally by putting enquirers in touch with the appropriate official in the Commercial Section of the British Embassy in Bangkok.

Please note that the Consulate cannot issue visas.

Applications for visas have to be forwarded to the British Embassy in Bangkok, and adequate time should be allowed for this.

You missed out the bit that the Consulate give excellent service, except with only one person in the office answering the phone is not given high priority over those who make their way to the office to talk in person.

excellent service, sounds promising. What are the time scales on sending documents and visa applications? Anyone had experiences? My friend states that for anothe rfriends visa they were brillliant alround. Sent the documents off and a visa was returned. So if the passport documents for my child are put in at CM Embassy does that mean the passport has to be picked up there or will it be posted?

However alot of people I know used a visa shop in CM.
