In Europe IBAN codes are needed for international transfers. I must wire transfer from Germany to 021213232, Somerset Hills Bank. Sufficient or not? If not is there a way to find out that bank´s correspondence bank?

I have the Skype World flatrate - want me to make a quick call for you?

IBAN #s are often on the WWW. I've looked them up for Thai and other banks myself.

HSBC UK lets me transfer money online, world wide. But no German bank AFAIK.

(They are great for EU payments - those are free when sent online for me

with an online account, while HSBC charges 9 pounds to Germany, 17 when you

send GBP).

You could try Faxzero.com to send a free fax to the U.S. bank, or drop me a PM with the number of the

bank. The IBAN is based on the account # and the bank's SWIFT code or BIC.

Good luck!

To Wannabebiker from recumbent cyclist -biker :-) Thanks indeed that you offer your help so generously. I decided to aske the receiver to provide the info, it´s a law firm, consequently I want them to do their job properly.

Many smaller US banks cannot receive funds directly from abroad. You will need a larger intermediary bank with swift and routing number and send the funds to the beneficiary's bank, who has an account number with that large bank. In payment details you then refer to the final beneficiary's account number and name.

I have wired money to my credit union in the U.S. many times using a routing number. No problems. As others mentioned, best to just ask your overseas bank what to use, and they will set you up.
