District Bailiff organizes Central Pattaya Drug Checkpoint

PATTAYA:--On Friday evening officers from the civil defense force along with Banglamung District Officials organized a checkpoint just outside of the offices of Sophon Cable TV in Central Pattaya.

They were in search of drivers and passengers who were consuming or possessing class 1 drugs.

Over 30 officers were involved and randomly pulled-over mainly motorbikes who, they thought, contained individuals who were likely to be somehow involved in illegal drugs.

Without police authority and presence it begs the question of what authority these local militias have, with even more potential for extortion and corruption.

It's pathetic. How many of these idiot militias have this scam power, and who can decide if they are empowered to organise these checkpoints?

Also, it's a waste of time - who can recall any major drug bust and subsequent conviction of a big name drug dealer in the last decade in Pattaya?

None of them are "authorised" - even the regular police checkpoints are not authorised unless they have a uniformed, on duty inspector present, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
