Hello!

My friend have idea of buying car in Malaysia and coming to Thailand and riding car with temporary numbers or Malaysian numbers. Is it possible?

If it were that easy, then everybody (including Thais) would be doing it.

I can't find the detail right now, but I think your temporary import is for a maximum of 30 days, then the car must leave Thailand.

My latest information is that the car can stay in Thailand for maximum 90 days, after which it must do a visa run. ermm.gif

Yes, it's possible - the Porsche Club of Malaysia do regular convoy excursions into Thailand, sometimes with up to 40-50 cars coming in at a time.. But then again, they also get police street lockdowns & escorts so they can have some legal fun at 200+km/hr too ;)

Perhaps your friend could get in touch with them in Malaysia for some tips?

Hi folks!

I have read that it is possible to temporarily import a car to Thailand for maximum 6 months, without import-taxation (but you need to bank a lot of tax anyway, I think 100.000-200.000THB as back-up)

I am building a house in Bang Lamung and are considering the pros/cons of temporary importing my Porsche 996) to Thailand. I know that I can reside the car for maximum 6 months before it must be exported from Thailand. I have no plan at all to sell my (left side drive car) to any thai citizen, I just want my own car while I reside at my summerhouse in Bang Lamung. Is this so hard to fulfill? Anyone know where it could be suitable to "garage" the car for 6-7 months a year when I am not in Thailand? Cambodia? Burma? Vietnam? Or maybe the African east coast? Is it really non-doable to have your own car at your "vacation-home" when you are not planning to sell the car, but just use it as you would at home? Travelling around in Europe, or USA, would be no trouble att all, South America probably the same. Why so hard to do it in Thailand??? I just want my own car in country for a few month, nothing more than that. Can someone explain, I cant get it? Logic?

Kind Regards

Isn't the cash deposit equal to the taxes and fees that would be assessed if said car was legally imported here? If it was just a few hundred thousand baht, you'd be seeing a lot of nice cars on foreign plates.
