i wonder if I could get a marriage visa,

I have been living in Thailand for years,I transfer money from my Irish bank account

into my Thai bank account every time I run out of money.

So even though the transfers are irregular they work out at about 20,000Bht a month.

I don't have 400,000Bht to lodge in a Thai bank account.

How would this do if I applied for a marriage visa,

I haven't done much research because my internet connection is slow,

THANKS

Do you want an extension or a visa (A visa is from outside of Thailand, an extension is given by your local Immigration Office)?

Instead of me giving a big list, use the link below to see what I usually supply the Immigration Officer at my local office with.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/511164-yearly-extension-based-on-marriage-nonthaburi/

Do you have an income from Ireland, if you can supply the Embassy letter as I do, then you will have no problems at all.

The requirement is 40k per month income or 400k in bank account 2 months. So unless you have income of 40k per month that you Embassy can write a letter about extensions would not be available. The next best option is multi entry non immigrant O visas valid for one year of up to 90 days stay each entry. That requires marriage certificate to Thai and copy of there ID card and home register and costs 5,000 baht at Savannakhet without any financial requirement.

O.K.

This is very helpful,

i am on a 15 day visa exemption but I an going to Savanakhet on monday for a tourist visa,

So am i right in thinking that if I get married before it runs out I have two options,

1-go two Savannakhet and get a year visa with 3 month reporting to emigration,

2-get a letter from my embassy to say I have 20,000bht income and I would have to show

less than 400,000bht in a Thai bank account and get an ectension of stay without having to leave the country,

The first option is looking the most attractive.I never knew about that before

NO!, you gotta have 40k a month income or 400k in a Thai bank.

One or the other.

1. You must exit Thailand every 90 days and return on a new 90 day entry. You can not do this at immigration on a multi entry visa.

2. You must have income of 40k per embassy letter or 400k in bank account 2 months to extend at immigration (each year).

O.K Thanks for your help.

So I will go with the MULTI ENTRY NON-EMIGRANT O VISA,

With this I don't have to show income and I can get the 3 month extensions by leaving the country

at Mae Sai.Then after a year I have to go back to Savannakhet.

Can you do this indefinitely and do you have to pay every 3 months for the extensions.

No pay other than border crossing fee and you can do at any time during the one year validity of the visa. Can serve you up to 15 months (cross just before it expires for another 90 day stay). You then would have to visit a Consulate to obtain again and need to check close to time to be sure who will issue without financials - most expect people to extend at immigration at some point so becoming less available than in the past - a single entry for 90 day stay is still easily available everywhere and expect some locations will always have the multi entry available.

So mufti-entry means you can leave and enter the country as many times as you like,

but at least every 90 days,

and if you do 90+90+90+89 you end up with 15 months.

To do this do you have to do it exactly on the 90 days so you don't loose time.

This is good news.......thank you very much

As said a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa will give you almost 15 months.

Each entry gives a maximum of 90 days.

You would have to pay for a Visa when entering Cambodia, Lao, Burma etc.

One last issue-My wife to be-her home register is at her Mums place.

We can't get it changed to where we actually live.

Is this going to be an issue.

And whats the fastest and cheapest way to get married in Thailand.

If living elsewhere they will require proof that you live somewhere else, such as a rental contract, utillity bill etc.

Getting married is free in Thailand, will only cost 50 baht to get a copy from the marriage register.

But you need a letter from your embassy stating that you are free to marry, have it translated into Thai and certified by the Thai foreign ministry. Those things do cost money.

could I not say I was living with her and her mother.

the person we are renting from is not yet got name on the deeds.

If we got her to sign a rental contract what contract would this matter.

For visa you can use copy of any home register with her name on it - you do not have to live there. For entry with visa you could do it every week if you wanted as long as you did not exit after visa expired and still get the almost 15 months. The number of entries is not limited. Only the number of days allowed for each entry is limited to 90.

She is already in the book at her mothers place. Let it be. That doesnt matter when you make the visa as halfof Thailsnd does not live in the locations listed in their residence books. Your flat or whatever is fine to use as your (2) home.

As Mario mentioned, you will need papers affirming you are free to marry from.your rmbassy, then have it processed at mfa in chaeng wattana near don muang.

Go to Ban Rak Amphoe to marry, save yourself grief.

There are some write ups on all the paperwork to take to emb/cons for visa. Take triplicates of everything.

Sorry 4 typos

Ps: you must get the affirnation translated to Thai.. You csn do it inside mfa building for 3 -400b

Living in Chiang rai you can check if your country has a consulate in Chiang mai, if so you can do everything there. The ministry of Foreign Affairs has an office where you can get the documents legalised at the CM-provincila hall, just outside the city.
