Buchholz
Moo Ham gets suspended jail term The Appeals Court Tuesday sentenced a young driver from a wealthy family to two years' suspended jail term for crashing into a group of bus passengers and killing one of them. The Phra Khanong Provincial Court found that Kanpitak Patchimsawat, 25, had a mental problem that reduced his ability to control himself while under stress. It was found that the victim was killed while the defendant could not control himself. He was initially sentenced to three years in jail, but the court later reduced the jail term to two years and one month. The court decided to suspend the penalty for two years and required the defendant to report to probation officials every three months over that period. The defendant also was asked to have his mental problem treated. Popular Post Briggsy
Appalling decision. Spoilt brat turned dysfunctional young adult flies into a rage and chases a minibus for a considerable distance forcing the minibus to ask the passengers to get off and then he rams into the disembarking passengers, killing one and severely injuring others. Very rich family with high-level police as family members. No jail time. Feudal society.

Popular Post David48
Why do I have a sense of sadness when I read this? Why, in such a wonderful country can a crime like this, because of a combination of wealth and contacts can go effectively unpunished? The Thai will not shake their head in disbelief ... but I do. But, as ordinary folk, both the Thais and I feel sad. One day in the future, this crime will not be able to go unpunished ... I hope that 'one day' will come sooner rather then later ... .

Popular Post Crushdepth
Disgusting. If we had any doubts that there is no justice in Thailand, as if we needed proof, here it is. For those who are not familiar with the case, this "man" deliberately drove his car into a bus stop full of people because he was pissed with a bus driver who scratched his precious frigging mercedes. Convicted of pre-meditated murder, he has not and will not spend a single day in jail. Shame Thailand, shame. Semper
The court decided to suspend the penalty for two years and required the defendant to report to probation officials every three months over that period. Well, if the waiting time at the probation officials are the same as the 90 days report in CM, he got what he deserved.

Popular Post Jingthing
... The Thai will not shake their head in disbelief ... but I do. ... I think most Thais not only aren't disbelieving, but the SILENT majority actually approves of this status quo and an "elite" young man like that actually going to prison for a well deserved LONG TERM with the peasants in the same conditions as the peasants would be shocking and disturbing. I know that's going to piss some people off but where is the evidence/action to show that isn't true? Edited March 5, 2013 by Jingthing

Misterwhisper
And is this mentally unstable person still permitted to drive a car or has his license been revoked? I also noticed how many hi-so types seem to be "mentally unstable" in this country (or perhaps claim to be so they never have to face the music). Is this a cultural thing? Genetic, perhaps? Or just another ugly manifestation of 'Thainess'? As usual, the mind boggles.
