Uk Sv Q

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Will my fiancée need to get her ID card, address and birth certificate translated into English?

I don't think she has to do this, but she recons she does. I know they have to be photocopied, but that is it as far as I am aware.

Thanks

It is a good idea to do so. Anything which makes the ECOs job easier is a good idea. I wouldn't bother translating her ID card, though.

Get more than one copy, as translations of birth certificate etc. will be useful once she is in the UK, and it's cheaper to get them done in LOS.

(For the benefit of Silomfan; this reply is not meant to be a hymn of praise to the ECOs. I am simply trying to answer Rj's question!)

Thanks chaps. Well that is me down on 100THB, we had a bet! doh :o

It is better to be safe than sorry but just for interest...

My wife got a new ID card in Jan 06 and it now has some English on it, her previous one didn't.

Also I have asked the embassy if we needed to provided a translated version of the marriage cert. and they said "No. We have people here who can read Thai".

As he was Thai it could have been taken as sarcasm but as he was otherwise friendly and helpful I will assume not.

Just another quick one, will my fiancee have to get a criminal record check done? Again, I don't think she has too but she thinks otherwise. I know for the USA it is required but I didn't think so for the UK or am I wrong again?

Thanks

She will not but they do ask on the application form is the applicant (your fiancee) has been convicted of any criminal offences (in any country). It may be unwise to lie.

Although I happen to know if it was a long time ago then it would be difficult for them to check.

It may be unwise to lie.
Noy quite. It would be extremely stupid to lie.

She has not got any criminal records in any country. I was simply asking the question, I didn't say she had done anything! :o

So she doesn't have to get a check done, good thats one less thing to worry about.

Thanks

Hi Rj81

No, all you have to do is photocopy these documents.

I too worried that they may need to be translated but copies were fine. That was only 4 weeks ago so nothing will have changed since then.

Cheers FM, we are going to get her birth certificate translated because as GU22 said it may come in handy in the UK.

Just to add to this.

When we arrived at the embassy there was a lady in the que in front of us who claimed to be waiting for a visa application meeting. She got talking with my mrs and stated that she needed to have her passport, ID and family book translated. I disagreed and as it turned out she was a tout for the local translation company and was just trying to scaremonger people and russle up some business.

I wondered why she didnt actually go into the embassy once it opened then I watched her as she hung around and tried touting a few other people. I know thats shes just trying to make a living but beware if you go there soon.
