BANGKOK, March 6 – Thailand will be spared a power shortage during the maintenance of a natural gas platform in Myanmar April 5-14, the energy minister announced today.

Pongsak Ruktapongpisal said the Fuel Tariff (FT) charge at Bt0.48 per unit will remain unchanged.

His statement was hailed by power consumers and industrialists who have been concerned over a possible electricity outage when the Yanada gas platform, one of the major energy suppliers for Thailand’s electricity production, will be fixed and suspend operations April 5-14.

Mr Pongsak said power reserves for April 5 has been increased from 767 megawatts (MW) to 1,424 MW thanks to cooperation from 13 industrial groups under the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) which have jointly reduced power consumption by 408 MW.

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand has also lowered its power usage by 83 MW while small power producers will boost their combined production by 110 MW, he said, adding that the initial plan to purchase 200 MW of power from Malaysia will be unnecessary.

He said the Energy Ministry will carry on its energy saving campaign and that the energy reserves will be increased by 1,674 MW if consumers and shopping outlets manage to reduce their consumption by another 250 MW.

FTI chairman Payungsak Chartsuthipol said the industrial sector will reduce power consumption in every manufacturing process while less important production will be temporarily suspended. (MCOT online news)

How many threads are we going to have for this "non event"?

How long will it take, to change their minds again?

And where is the real evidence coming from,...

Unclear information, hiding the facts, to save face as usual...

Yeah right! They also said no floods!!

The sky is falling, the sky is failing....wait a minute....never mind...sorry.

How many threads are we going to have for this "non event"?

Not sure it is. Maybe another way to shaft the consumer and put the cash in the hands of the rich.

Lotus and Big C on Rama 4 were red hot inside on Sunday. Tell the public it's Burma's fault, get them used to it, and pocket the savings on lekkie bills.

Smart idea by the rich and wannabe richer rulers.

Maybe the press needs to check themselves too before reporting three different sides to the same story. I mean, way to make yourself look like an idiot!!!!

We have a plan...there will be outages...there will be no outages. Do you realize how little face you've saved with the community?

Useless information, leads to useless information.

"Pongsak Ruktapongpisal said the Fuel Tariff (FT) charge at Bt0.48 per unit will remain unchanged."

Clearly out of touch with his own department.

FT has been 0.5204 for the last two months.

Ditto...just checked my bill from last month.. 0.5204 is what my FT calculates out to. But the MEA website does say the FT is 0.48 Sep-Dec 12...didn't see any FT rate listed for Jan 13 and on....supposedly the FT is reviewed/adjusted every 4 months.

I thought the public believes everything is Burma's fault anyway? ;)

And just in case his colleague is wrong the Minster of Transportation sets up an emergency plan...

Never trust a minister, not even from your own political party! whistling.gif
